Debating if I should listen to Futures today to prepare for Futures this afternoon, or if I should hold out and just listen to the livestream to keep it all fresh. I haven't listened to the full album in quite awhile!

 

I say listen to it. That way you could pick out any differences between the original studio versions and live interpretations.

 

That's what I was kinda thinking too. Good call.

 

PS: I am a member of Mike Kinsella's patreon, and last week he had Jason Cupp on a group Zoom call to answer questions. Jason produced LP2 and LP3 by American Football, but he worked alongside Trombino on Futures and Stay on Your Side Tonight as an assistant engineer.

I asked Jason how it was working on those and with Mark Trombino in general. He said that he worked on Futures pre-Trombino's firing. He stated that Trombino has always been "hard to work with" which in a nutshell is why he was fired from Futures. Jason said that the songs on SOYST were supposed to be on the original release of Futures, but obviously they went in a different direction with Gil Norton. Also, Jason didn't even know about the Donut Friend drama until we mentioned it to him while we were on the subject of Trombino being hard to work with, haha. He was like "Well, there ya go."

 

I've been playing Futures around the house for the past week or two. I did the same with Surviving leading up to the concert. It's an intentional effort on my part to slowly create familiarity with my 4 yr old and 6 yr old. They just start picking up on the lyrics while just playing around the house, so by the time I fire up the show/concert on Fridays, I get a lot of "Hey, I know this song!" reactions from them, which is fun.

 

I’m having a particularly tough week. (Just) Tonight is highly needed.

 

My masks came today- never got a shipping notification, lol. They seem like great quality. Love how they fit. Wonder if anyone will know what they are when I’m grocery shopping, lol.

 

I take public transit. It would make my day if someone recognized any of them.

 

I am planning on doing the same thing I did for Surviving: watch the pre-show live then hold off on the album stream until later... when my pizza from Jimmy's Cafe gets here.
