through as a whole might be my gun to head answer of favorite song now. it’s getting there. it means so much to me on a personal level the themes there are all too relatable, and the song itself is catchy as all hell and probably their best straightforward pop rock tune since anytbing since chase this light, an album I feel through could fit on easily

They have way too many lyrics that hit me on that level, especially on Futures. Like I think every song on that album has a line or 2 that punches me in the feels.

  3. Top 3 is impossible but my gun to head reaction would be “for me this is heaven,” “blister,” and “Always Be”

My “if I had to choose” top 3 all come from Futures.

    Polaris
    Kill
    23

Polaris has long been a song of complete catharsis that I return to in order to stay grounded or relive happy memories if shit gets rough.

Kill is basically a song that my wife and I fell in love through when I put it on a CD-R for her ahead of a long trip away right after graduating from high school.

When I first heard 23, I thought it was one of the most grandiose and beautiful songs I’d ever heard to that point in my life and immediately picked up the guitar, looked for tabs, and learned to play along.

Basically, when I force myself to think about it, Futures as a whole is probably THE most important album to me in terms of when I experienced it, where I was at in those formative teenage years, and the connections it later helped me make.

In fact, I still remember the day pretty well that I bought it from Circuit City and replayed it probably a dozen times.

  12. I discovered Jimmy Eat World through Midnight Club 3 on PS2. "Pain" was the featured song. It was a former best friend and me's favorite one, and we would play it over and over again to the point I had to look up the soundtrack's tracklisting to remember what else was on it. It's a bit bittersweet to hear it now that our friendship fell apart, but at least I'll always have these nice childhood memories ingrained in my brain thanks to this band.

I didn't actually got into them until late 2009. I'm not sure how it happened, my earliest memory from that time was putting on Futures, probably for the first time in its entirety, while coming back from seeing Avatar in theaters. I still have a vivid memory of hearing Night Drive and being completely mesmerized by it. I instantly fell in love with their discography afterwards.

I’ve been a fan of JEW since the summer of 2001 when I first heard Bleed American on the radio then immediately picked up the album. Two months later they pulled the record and renamed it “Jimmy Eat World” (it’ll always be Bleed American to me)

Just Watch the Fireworks is one of the most cinematic songs I've ever heard, like I can practically see the titular fireworks and the entire scene playing out underneath them. It's always been a favorite.

This thread got me all jacked up for some Jimmy yesterday. Ended up listening to Integrity Blues, Clarity, and Bleed American at work. Will rock Chase This Light first thing this morning.

One takeaway from yesterday is that Integrity Blues (album) has to be in the conversation of their best work. It is absurdly good and I only considered one song as simply "average" (The End is Beautiful). Pol Roger is a gorgeous closer but the song Integrity Blues is necessary for the full 1-2 punch

If I wasn’t super deep into a Thrice binge I would be jamming JEW. At some point soon I will take a deep dive into JEW.

23 and Dizzy are easily my top two JEW songs. I can't even fathom trying to decipher a third because there's literally dozens that I could pick.

I will say that Get it Faster is probably my most underrated JEW song and the first song of theirs that I fell in love with back in 01.
