  1. Hell yeah, I had only just recently realized their Pittsburgh date was sold out and I wanted to go so I was bummin'. No The Hotelier, but I've seen them enough the last couple years.

I have always been conflicted about Damage. I believe it has some of Jim's best lyrics (which for JEW is REALLY saying something) but I have found the music to be pretty lackluster.

While I love all of JEW's albums, Damage is definitely my least favorite.

  6. While I still claim JEW as one of my favorite bands, and I go see them every time they’re in town, their last three or four albums haven’t really hit me the way their earlier stuff has.

  9. I can see that. Integrity Blues is growing on my as slowly as Invented did. Still objectively great though. No doubt about that.

It’s always been an important album for me, but I’ve fallen in love with Bleed American again. Decided to listen to it driving home recently and it hit me more than it has in years.

My wife and I just bought a house and we have a finished attic that I’ve sort of taken over as my own space to play guitar and meditate. I was just up there doing some stretching and Cautioners came on and I just rolled over and stared at the ceiling and realized two things:

    1. That song gets more beautiful with each listen.

    2. Kind of sad, but I romanticize this record a lot as it came out my Junior year in high school and it was an incredibly formative few months for me. However, none of my friends listened to the same music as me at all, so all of these memories I have are actually just me driving around alone at night. I don’t know if that’s depressing or not. I think it probably is, and it was a weird thing to realize 16 years later.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

I've lived car-less in Chicago for 10 years and I miss driving around listening to fantastic music and being sad haha.

I've driven endless miles listening to the JEW heavy hitters (23, Cautioners, My Sundown, Just Watch The Fireworks, Polaris, DIzzy, Kill, etc.) with tears in my eyes.

Bleed American was the first JEW record for me. I was in high school as well; don't remember if I was driving quite yet. My experience with the record was Kazaa or Limewire at the time. I didn't get all the songs on the album at once. I of course had the singles first. I remember feeling another little hit of joy when I would find another song out there that was on the album, and another when it all came together as the full thing. I would be downloading them on the family computer in the dining room that's sitting in front of 3 windows. While waiting to download or listening to it I would stare off through the windows into the green trees of the woods behind my house.

Same for me being the only person at my school listening to this type of stuff. I went to a small Christian school anyway. I remember burning a copy of specifically Authority Song for a girl to listen to.

......I'm think I'm going to listen to this today.

We all goin' down a JEW memory lane? I'll bite.

My sister owned Bleed American since it's release, but I never listed to it much and only heard it in passing. It wasn't until my junior year of college in 2006 when I bought the 2-disc Futures Japanese import (with the Trombino demos) at a used CD store for $8 because I've always read that JEW was in the ilk of bands I alredy liked. It forever changed my life and I made everyone I know listen to it and they're one of mine and my best friends top bands.

This is the version of Futures I first bought back around the time it came out, and I have always absolutely loved the demo version of Work on the white disc. The drums are so powerful.

My first exposure to Jimmy Eat World was when they opened for Weezer and Tenacious D in 2001. I was in 10th grade. About 7 or 8 of my friends went to the show and I instantly fell in love with Jimmy Eat World. I had no clue who they were. I remember specifically being enamored with Get it Faster live.

The next day, I went out and bought Bleed American.
