    I'm not brave Prestigious

Random question, but do most people not really consider the first album to be a "real" JEW album? I never see it in anybody's rankings. I've never listened to pre-Clarity stuff, so forgive me if this is an obvious question.

It's a mediocre punk album. It's a bad version of SP. the band plays nothing from it and they don't acknowledge it, I've even heard Tom in interviews say stuff like "SP was our first record" or referring to Clarity as a sophomore record.

I think if it were up to Jim they wouldn't play anything from SP. although even now it's rare when they do play any cuts from it. I don't think I've ever heard Jim acknowledge that album.

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

their first album sounds nothing like static prevails. static is a classic album. lots of people say things like "x is the worst jimmy album outside of static prevails" on this forum as though its just assumed that everyone knows static is the worst. STATIC IS NOT NEARLY THEIR WORST ALBUM. give it a proper chance people.

the debut album on the other hand. thats a fairly decent pop punk album for its time but it doesnt sound like jimmy and its nothing special.

Static is their One For The Kids, a good album but clearly the worst of the last 7

im telling you this website is an anomaly and nowhere else is it believed that static is their worst album. its this weird hive mind mindset that this website has that you have to disregard static and its just not true anywhere else. static is not the ugly duckling album by jew and never has been. that award goes to their self titled debut, not static.

this site is such a weird little bubble when it comes to static prevails.

i have no hatred for this site or anything and i love this awesome community. but my problem with this position that the hive mind seems to have on static is that it could ruin the experience for others through the power of suggestion. if people keep reinforcing this weird notion that static is the ugly ducking, new fans are going to absorb that mindset without giving static the chance it deserves. the VAST majority of JEW fans consider static to be better than ctl, invented and damage. now its all subjective of course and damage is my personal favourite album... but i think its a little unjust to perpectuate this completely anomalous position on static prevails when there are likely some fairly impressionable people here (as we all are from time to time)

idk i have a hard time buying that. it doesn't make sense to me at all. static almost sounds like a different band (not as much as s/t of course).

lol, Static Prevails is just not an album I really enjoy listening to and never has been. My feelings toward it have nothing to do with "hive mind" bullshit or anything else. I didn't like that album very much before I started posting on AbsolutePunk and continue to not like it very much now. I do not think it is a bad album, but it is undoubtedly the "ugly duckling" in that it sounds almost nothing like anything that came after it. I think the songwriting is markedly weaker than what they did Clarity onward and just do not like Tom enough as a singer to listen to him for more than about one track per record.

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

its a different duckling but its not the ugly duckling. an ugly ducking is generally something that is widely considered to be not as good and that isnt the case for static. fair enough that you personally dont like it though. im sure you gave it a chance. a lot of people wont give it a chance though, because they see whats said about it here and assume it isnt worth their time. they were at a very creative time with static and its one of their most varied and progressive albums.

edit: i dont like tom either. i generally skip his songs. though seventeen, rockstar and episode iv are better than blister and action needs an audience by a huge margin.

    yeah, basically this.

"Different duckling" is probably a fair way of putting it. But still, Static would be the last of their records I would recommend someone to listen to (other than their debut, which I would not recommend, period). That doesn't really have to do with it not being any good, because there are definitely good things about it. But if someone likes Futures or Chase This Light or whatever their newest record is, Static is such a long way from those albums that it wouldn't make sense to say "oh, listen to this next." I don't really think people are unwilling to give it a chance: more it's the last one people get to and therefore the one they know least.

yeah i mean, i have nothing against it but i dont give a fuck about other peoples general collective thoughts on an album. to me, SP is clearly the worst of the last 7. idk whats hard to get about that.

if anythings the ugly duckling, OUTSIDE of the debut, its Damage. Damage is widely considered to be their worse post-debut album, by consensus. I dont agree but that is the majority opinion.

ive seen nothing but praise for Damage, not just here but around the web. but again, dont really care about that. i just like discussing why people like/dislike albums and giving my opinion. thats really all that matters.

i guess chorus.fm is just a very particular group of people. fair enough. i just want more people to give a fair chance to one of this bands most creative and interesting works.

yeah i totally get that, and im sorry if i came off or am coming of as hostile, because i do really genuinely enjoy SP. I just reach for the other 6 more.

while i agree with your last point, i have to wonder if youve spent much time at all looking online for opinions about Damage. it generally gets slammed. sorry but it does. and that makes me sad cause its so damn good.
