People would be surprised at how much autotune is in music they like. It’s not just exclusive to pop and radio

it has nothing to do with autotune really. the music on the radio is all extremely bland and sounds all the same though. a lot of it is vanilla and genreless stuff produced and written by all the same people. that said plenty of great albums chart high regardless of if they hit radio or not. anyway it should be obvious a band like jimmy eat world wont be hitting massive numbers, their time in the mainstream came and went and thats okay, as long as they continue to reliably pump out albums and are able to make it work and keep touring what difference does it make

I think someone above nailed in on the head when they said how cool it is that they reached #9 in just physical album sales

I acknowledge my own pretension and no one cares, someone else reiterates the same words and everyone agrees lol

I think we're past using the term "autotune" to describe what you are definitely not describing

  7. I'd be willing to bet a good amount of money there's pitch correction on this album.

Speaking of Jim's voice, I listened to Usery on YouTube from their very first album and it's insane how much he's improved

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Jim is quite a pitchy singer if we are being completely honest. I love his voice, he is my favourite singer, but he is occasionally pitchy live. I wouldn't be surprised if they used a little correction particularly in the key change in Diamond. That part sounds tough to sing.

There is no way in hell Jim is going to be able to hit all those notes in Diamond if they ever play it live

on the contrary jim is one of the most accurate live vocalists ive seen, right there with father john misty and dustin kensrue.

Lizzo, summer walker, dababy, drake, billy eilish, post malone, camila cabello... not a fan of all of them (esp not ed sheeran, j biebs, etc), but it really could be worse.

Yeah not knocking you if it's your thing but I really could not care less about pop radio currently.

I think "radio" is pretty unfairly judged most of the time, I used to be a culprit too. Yes, radio itself is pretty horrible as a medium these days, but you can't just automatically write off am an artist because they gain radio play, that's pretty fucked up

For me at least it's not at all writing off someone because they get radio play, and more just the quality of the artists on the radio as of late, like Sophos was saying. If an artist I like gets radio play then I don't mind and enjoy seeing them have success!

I just think that like any year, radio has a mix of good quality and bad quality, there's still good artists on the radio today

I know this is a hot take here and there are a lot of posters who enjoy this sort of thing and I genuinely by no means want to deprive them of their enjoyment or call these artists bad because I know they aren't, and I know there is a lot of talent involved in pop music, but I am not a huge pop person in general. Like I enjoy pop rock to a degree but that's it. So for me there just isn't a whole lot that modern pop radio has to offer.

And I know I brought up quality before, which probably wasn't the right word to use. Maybe style or general vibe is a better way of putting what I don't like about radio right now. Just don't wanna contradict myself haha.
