really looking forward to hearing my older brother's thoughts on this record and talking with him about it. we grew up with this band, have seen them twice together (and we saw jim solo together) and we both consider them one of our favorites even to this day. idk this band is just kind of a special piece of our relationship that i cherish.

This album really is as good as everyone has been saying. I'll definitely need to give it some time to see where it stacks up and which songs end up being favorites of mine, but there really is not a bad song on here. I love them experimenting a bit with their sound.

I definitely agree with the track list they ended up going with versus that early potential one from the pic, just based on the songs here and not having heard My Enemy.

Side note: it looks like over on Reddit someone posted a downloadable SoundCloud link for My Enemy, but it was up for less than two hours and then taken down.

Yeah not one bad track. Not even a mediocre song on here.

Way early, but could definitely see this being my album of the year.

My iTunes says 46:39. So somewhere around there.

I've got that with my older brother too. It's great.

It's currently battling neck and neck with The Hotelier and The 1975 for my album of the year.

And You Are Free has passed Somebody Else and Soft Animal and DVP as my song of the year, if only just barely.

And that's why you always leave a note.

It's only $10 in Canada? That's.... weird. Once you add in the shipping, it's not much cheaper than normal haha.

It's probably going to be my number 2, but my top 2 this year could feasibly be my top 2 of the decade so far, so that's something.

My top 5 of this year could all be AOTY's in normal years... This year is not normal haha

I agree. Last couple oF years have been shitty. But 2016 is an anomaly.

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Nothing will top The Dear Hunter: Act V for my album of the year I'm afraid. It's in a different league to most other albums I ever hear.

I haven't even had a chance yet to sit down and listen to the whole album all the way through in one go.

I feel like this year has had so many albums come out but so few that really do much for me. I'm having an off year musically, really not getting that excited by much.

Listening to this right now and "It Matters" is lovely. I probably like it more than any of the pre-release tracks.

Sure and Certain and Get Right are definitely my two least favorite tracks here. I like those a little less than everything else. Pretty Grids is amazing

Hey now. Look at you. Way cool.

Pass the Baby might become my song of the year. I'm a huge post-rock nerd as well so was expecting to end up not liking it and being like "come on jimmy dont try to play in an arena you aren't cut out for" but no, it's a cool fucking song. Shouldn't doubt JEW.

"Pass the Baby"'s my least favourite so far. I don't dislike it but I don't really like it much either.

"Get Right" is still a jam.

  23. I'm having the opposite year. I'm overwhelmed by how much music has come out and been fantastic. I'm so far behind in even listening to it all.

I'm definitely way behind in listening to stuff, haha. So there could well be a lot of stuff out there I'd adore but I've become much less enthusiastic about listening to stuff recently because I haven't really been falling for stuff like I used to.

It seems like most people are having the same experience as you though so it's clearly me that's the problem, haha.

Best year in music that I've experienced in a long time.

I'm actually rather relieved that Brand New didn't give us an album, as I'd have certainly allowed that to take away from how much I'm enjoying everything coming out right now.

None of these are living in the shadow of my "super fandom" and are breathing on their own as I discover these bands I've ignored for too long.
