I've loved the two Sanders solo records I've heard (Karma and especially Thembi)

Musicians Institute's YouTube page has some great throwback clinic/performances. There's full video of the Buddy Rich Band, Ed Thigpen, Chuck Silverman, and some other guys who brought in bands and played at the school. Some good stuff hidden in there.

Been listening to a lot of Ethiopian jazz music for the last few months. There's a really strong tradition of jazz / r&b / fusion in east Africa that was pretty instrumental in the Zulu Nation movement in hip hop. A lot of interesting stuff to be found!

EDIT: I meant to post a Mulatu Astatke album, but this is good too!

Allison Miller has a new Boom Tic Boom alum coming out soon. Very excited for that.

I've also been listening to a ton of Tony Williams lately

Who are some jazz vocalists y'all like? Ella has to come up, and the Coltrane and Hartman record is an all-time favorite of mine.

Can't believe I forgot Nina Simone! "Nina at the Village Gate" is perfection.

Not sure if this has already been posted but I've been obsessed with the new album Spark by Hiromi, which has also gotten me into her 2014 album Alive.

  22. Stretch Music, his latest. Amazing album, one of my favorites from 2015. Then, you can pretty much go wherever you want, but if you need some structure you can't go wrong working backwards.

Like, I am LOSING it at how much I like this Tiny Desk. Fuck.

I am now terrified the album will sound more sterile because the live room sound is so amazing for them.

  24. It might. The TD is definitely another level. If you need some live stuff, his Live At Newport is as good as anything he's put out

Noted. I'll start with the record and adjust as necessary.

    Thanks for posting this, man.
