Man I hate to do it but I'm pretty close to deleting the opener.

Well if you skip a song every time why keep it in there?

I deleted “To a Band That I Loved” from SMTF for the same reason. I basically always turned the album off or started it back over as soon as I got to that song.

The opener is definitely the worst song on here

I usually don’t skip songs, but occasionally I skip “Super 8” on Southeastern. Not because it’s a bad song, more so because it always feels jarring to me. I’d say that it’s just the sequencing that bothers me but I’m not sure where would be better.

I would never skip Super 8 but that song certainly does come out of nowhere.

Super 8 is a great song but it is a strange fit on the album. It’s also probably the song that reminds me the most of his DBT material.

For the first few years I listened to Isbell, I literally just put all his stuff on shuffle. So I really still have a hard time always remembering what’s on Here We Rest/SMTF/Southeastern, because those records all sound similar enough production wise that they could be on the same project. Which is totally fine, because every song is perfect.

The idea of deleting a song is absolutely off-the-rails to me. If you don't want to hear it, you can just un-check it.

Am I the only one that thinks Nashville Sound is slightly better than SMTF?

Not even on the same planet for me tbh

A few takes, in response to the last couple of pages:

-Something More Than Free is fantastic, but has always felt a little less cohesive to me than Southeastern and The Nashville Sound (and now Reunions, which I'd argue is probably his most cohesive record ever). It's why I don't rank it quite as high, even though it has a lot of unbelievable songs. The other issue, for me, is that "To a Band I've Loved" is easily his weakest closer.

-"Super 8" is a very good song that sounds a tad limp on record. It's considerably better live. I don't think Cobb had figured out how to capture Isbell in rock mode yet.

-I have the remixed/remastered version of The 400 Unit on vinyl, and a lot of the changes Cobb made just don't make sense to me. He really strips away some of the grandeur of "The Last Song I Will Ever Write."

Super 8 is fun as hell

before we could afford anything nice whenever my friends and I would go to atlantic city, we would cram like 7 of us into one shitty room in a local Super 8, and I have definitely thought 'i'm gonna die in this place' on more than one occasion lol

I don’t think I’ve listened to anything pre-Southeastern, I really need to change that because Southeastern on he doesn’t have a bad song

the first three are uneven and have his worst songs, but also a handful of his absolute best
