this is fantastic. I'm currently reading IT for the first time in full. I'm at the restaurant scene where all the adults are catching up and it's been such a phenomenal scene when I laugh, I feel sad, and feel tension all just with them sitting and talking to each other. can't wait to finish and see Chapter 2.

Is this... not doing pre-screenings in certain cities? I know I got one for Boston

I mean I just bought my tickets today and I’m super stoked, but if they somehow botched this I will become untethered and my rage will know no bounds.

Wait, weren’t there already press screenings and everyone was praising Hader? Did I dream that? Haha

There have been plenty of press screenings, reactions are already out. Not having any press screenings in a city isn’t that big of a deal, even if it is Austin

Having limited to no press screenings usually means the studio doesn't have that much faith in the film with the critics. So when something like this happens, it's normally not promising

Considering how well the first one did, audiences are still psyched to see it.

There have been press screenings. And there will be more, also a ton of advance screenings. This “panic” is because there aren’t any in Austin.

I've heard there's other cities not doing there either. Cleveland, Kansas City etc. Maybe I'm wrong, but past experiences has shown this isn't the best sign

Location of press screenings doesn't really matter when the internet exists? It's not like the city of Austin is now in a blackout of the mixed reviews because there wasn't a screening there.

I'm not defending the movie in anyway, maybe it is a total piece of shit. But this is a non story that is getting more attention that it deserves.

I'm not talking about specific locations. Look, I don't want to beating the same two cents to death, and I apologize if I'm doing that here, but major studios usually set up an advance screening of their films the week of each of their releases, in theaters across the country (usually one or two in every major city,) namely because they want good reviews from critics or a good word of mouth before it hits theaters. For a pre-screening to be pulled or not even planned to be screened is potentially a sign that the studio doesn't have in it being all that well-received. I'm not saying it applies here, just that it's something to throw out for possibilities' sake. The fact that, following the hit-or-miss reactions a week, WB didn't decide to screen this ahead of time in every major city is perplexing among other things

Whatever though, hope I'm wrong and that this is really good. And I'm not denying that people are obviously hyped and will pay hand over fist for this movie

Sometimes studios also embargo or don’t have screenings to avoid spoilers leaking. There have already been screenings, we’ve already seen reviews, and we all know horror movies are a special kind of subjective. I’m confident the movie will be fine but at the end of day...just go see it. Your opinion is your opinion.
