Apparently it wasn’t intended for Poland but hit anyway. Just an example of Russian military hardware in action.

Even if it does come out that this was not an intentional strike, Poland was not a good choice to whoopsie-bomb.

My point was just that NATO won't retaliate with war over a failed target hit.

I don't think they will either. I think the response to this will be stepping up Article 4 talks.

Seems like the missile didn’t come from Russia. I bet it’s an own goal situation.

Sheesh. We are going to get atomized by a mistake.

There’s not going to be any atomizing, especially if the missile indeed didn’t come from Russia.

There will be an “investigation” and sympathy for the 2 killed. I’d be surprised if this is even talked about in a month.

It could very well happen over a mistake like this. A misread radar screen almost ended the world in the 80s.

It is absolutely a very dangerous, precarious situation. I see Biden's comments there as an attempt to bring the temperature down a little bit.

I mean, I have very little worry that the immediate response to this is atomization or even any kind of direct strikes on Russia. My concern is that anything other than a stern warning gets NATO directly involved and likely leads to some form of retaliation from Russia (and then the string of counter-retaliations escalates things to god knows where). And it is hard to imagine a response that isn't at least somewhat escalatory given the need to stand by the claim of "defending every inch of NATO territory"

Best case scenario though is that it didn't come from Russia after all

It's looking fairly likely that this was Ukrainian air defense attempting to shoot down a Russian missile or rocket attack, which fits with all of the very careful language being used by everyone right now.

What the headline should specify is that it's not a one-time infusion, but to basically to set a budget to cover aid to Ukraine for all of next year

$14.5 billion in humanitarian aid and $900 million for health-care and support services in there. Exactly what we should be doing.

If Russia launches a missile or a rocket at Ukraine aimed at Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and it lands in Poland and kills Polish citizens, Russia is at fault.

If Russia launches a missile or a rocket at Ukraine aimed at Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and Ukraine tries to shoot it down with air defense and some combination of the air defense missile itself and/or the original missile or rocket land in Poland and kill Polish civilians, Russia is at fault.

Even if Ukrainian air defense missed entirely and landed in Poland, Russia is still at fault. It's not like Ukraine is just popping air defense missiles up into the air for fun - they are attempting to defend their civilians from active and ongoing war crimes.

All of the officials involved said exactly what you would expect them to say in this situation in a day and age where news come out so quickly.

There was indication of evidence the missiles were Russian, I thought that meant Russian-made at least, but does Ukraine even have Russian-made missiles at this point?

I agree deaths are primarily on Russian hands, no matter whose miss it was, but I'm concerned about the reporting or the source's intel on this specifically.

"Russian-made" was the description that I kept reading. I was under the impression that Ukraine is still using a lot of their older, Russian-made equipment and ammunition but is in the process of switching everything over. I don't know for sure that they are still using Russian-made air defense, but it seems possible and even probable given the sheer size of the area they need to cover and various allies' hesitations sending equipment.

  21. The AP said "Russian Missiles." The Ukrainian official said what turned out to be correct was a Russian conspiracy. Who's at fault ultimately for the deaths isn't the conversation

How is it anyone else's fault aside from the aggressor who launched the attack in the first place?

Zelenskyy is adamant that Ukraine did not fire the missiles that landed in Poland.
