  1. You know what? I thought this was a different thread about Chorus. My b. The Instagram timestamps aren't great. Definitely a change for the worse.

My timestamps have moved under the likes and comments on the left side. But I have an iPhone.

My last two posts (since the update) have recieved half the amount of likes I can usually get, so I assume that means less people are seeing them now. Not sure if it's a coincidence or what, but that's a bummer.

I saw a friend tweet a new Insta, opened my app, and it wasn't there and hasn't showed up in my feed all day.

Yeah, I'm glad I never updated. But I know a lot of people did.

Any time I post now, I'm reminded that the popular users get more popular and I get...

I have been followed by a bunch of Russians lately. Not sure why haha.

I've been followed by a bunch of Indians as well. I'm participating in a travel grant competition on there, so I got a lot of backpackers at one point, but that makes way more sense than the current flux of Indians.

Instagram was a fantastic tool for marketing artists and bands until they changed how their posts are viewed. I am expecting a gradual decline in post likes.

I'm lucky to top out at 50 likes now, if I post at just the right time (whenever that is). I want to bitch about it in this thread any time I post a picture. It's stupid and I still refuse to update the app, even though everyone else has.

I was wondering, is the algorithm a way of making money without having to directly post ads? These popular accounts get all the spotlight and when those users post about the new Mazda they're driving, or whatever it may be, I'm sure Instagram gets some kind of kick back from that.

Social media platforms hate independent or local business. That's about as blunt as I can put it.

  14. Bring on the new icon and update.

Unfortunately, chronological order doesn’t scale well. Once a medium or platform has had its here-comes-everyone moment, the stuff you actually want to see gets buried in an undifferentiated stream — imagine a library organized chronologically, or even the morning edition of a newspaper. People are doing too many things and they are happening all at once, and the once-coherent experience of people using a platform unravels into noise. Who among us hasn’t logged into Twitter only to find friends one-upping each other with meta-meta-meta-ironic jokes about something that happened five minutes ago, and no longer is anyone actually mentioning the thing they’re joking about? Who among us has not followed someone because of a really excellent viral photo or tweet, and then hundreds of posts later it’s like Oh my God, stop talking about your cat, or your car, or your loneliness?

Really good read about what I was talking about earlier.

Not digging the new icon. Other than that, I don't mind the update.

Icon is good. Surprised they didn't change it sooner. But they should have also redesigned the script word mark since the two no longer work together.

I always felt the icon was very dated in the early skewmorphic iOS way. The new icon I'm not crazy about but the new app design is nice.

The actual app design is great. I'm really enjoying it just being black and white. Kinda wish the icon matched it better, though.

The fact that the icon is flat is all that matters to me. The old one looked so out of place.
