Rewatched the entire series in anticipation for Dial.

Raiders - seen it countless times. A masterpiece.
Temple of Doom - haven’t seen it since I was a teenager and honestly this one doesn’t work for me. I understand why Spielberg doesn’t like this one at all.
the last crusade - Still fun! Would have been a good send off. Great chemistry between Ford and Connery.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - first time seeing since opening weekend 2008. I was hoping maybe my dumb teenage internet brain was wrong but no this still sucks.

Should have been the send off.

It's been a while but I remember loving Temple of Doom! There's a lot of interesting nods to Hinduism and it does sci-fi in a way that fits the serial nature of the series.

Got a ticket to see this in IMAX here in Oslo Saturday night at 9pm, with a seat in the very center of the theater - very, very excited

Watched Crystal Skull for the time last night and liked it for the most part

I’ll be seeing it this weekend. Also crystal skull was not a fun or good watch. Indiana Jones going sci-fi was not what I wanted.

I’m not a fan of Crystal Skull, but I never understood what the big deal was having interdimensional aliens compared to an ark filled with phantoms that melt peoples’ faces, a dude pulling out a beating heart, and a cup that can heal wounds and give eternal life.

I think it was down to those films still making those things and events grounded in semi-reality, whereas Crystal Skull was just so out there. I only saw the film once when it came out, but somehow surviving a nuke in a fridge was seared into my brain for how preposterous it was.

I guess I don’t really see any of those things being semi-realistic at all. I find it easier to believe in interdimensional or space aliens over immortality and face melting phantoms.

A cup someone used thousands of years ago, an ark that housed tablets, and some stones are much more realistic than a crystal alien skull. All the movies take those things and goes fantastical with them. Face melting, eternal life and such. With the first three, you could have someone like Indy say they are just objects. But if he sees an actual crystal alien skull? He can’t say that. While they’re all used the same way, that context is very different.

But crystal skulls are a real thing whether alien or not. The ark and holy grail don’t exist.

    That’s an entirely different point.

How? The point was those things are more realistic yet crystal skulls actually exist in our reality even though they’re still bullshit.

If I put a cup, a box, a stone, and an alien crystal skull on a table and just said they were all religious in nature, you’re really gonna say they’re all as realistic as the other? You can’t disregard the alien aspect. It’s physically designed to be an alien. The others are everyday objects that may have significance, maybe it’s all bullshit. But an alien skull? You start at a much different place than if you discover a cup.

I was under the mistaken belief that the fridge thing was the climax of the movie, and again, none of this is real, so who cares

I get your point but the skull is considered a normal object by Indy for mostly the whole movie, so he has the same basis for every object. We don’t find out it’s alien until the end.

So how is finding out aliens exist any more fantastical than religious objects?

I care. Understanding and explaining/discussing art is kind of a huge thing for me.
