strong case for carpenter

 

I like the music he does for his movies but...come on.

 

Carpenter is one of the all time greats, tf

 

I just fundamentally disagree that he is in the same group as those three.

 

i mean, you can disagree, that’s fine. kind of absurd to objectively say he isn’t in the group though with some of the scores he’s done. arguably the most iconic individual piece out of anyone on that list outside of TGTBTU, as well.

 

Star Wars? Indiana Jones? Jurassic Park? Psycho?

 

I love the Halloween score but he just simply does not have the vast body of work to consider him in the same category.

 

Fucking Jaws. I don’t think I’m as crazy as I feel. I’m sorry! I don’t mean to argue. I just feel like, if you asked most people “name a great film composer,” you’re gonna get a lot of the first three and very few of the other.

You could maybe make a case for Korngold and Victor Young, but that's probably the 3, yeah.

Oh wow just seeing the news of Ennio Morricone passing. What a legend. May he rest in peace.

i was under the impression morricone did the score but carpenter still did the main theme, my bad

 

Maybe not is his most popular or well regarded but his score for The Mercenary is the one I listen to the most. Most people probably aren't' familar with the film but it's main theme was used in the scene where Beatrix, the bride, punches her way out of a coffin and digs out of her own grave after being buried alive.

Not going to claim like I've listened to all of his scores or anything though, just a personal favorite.
