Ditto for Place Beyond the Pines. That scene where Bradley Cooper's cop character is in the car following his boss to the woods -- Liotta turns the thing into a horror movie by doing nothing but driving and looking.

He had a strange up-and-down career but later in life he really settled into a fantastic "this guy can show up and become the great white shark of this movie for 5 minutes" run. And he's the lead of one of the best, and IMO the most rewatchable, films of all time. That's like dropping Illmatic, such an iconic performance that your legend status is set in stone immediately and forever. RIP.

Man, the Liotta news really hits hard.

I remember going to see fucking Wild Hogs in theaters with friends because the previews actually made it seem like it would be a blast (it is!) and I had no idea Liotta was in and when she showed up I marked the fuck out as the kids used to say.

Always enjoyed his work and always surprised at how wild and varied his career was for the style of films he was in.

 

Nooo to Andy Fletcher, founding member of one of the most influential bands ever. So sad :(

 

Heartbreakers has a special place in my heart (I might be the only one), but he’s great in that too if one hasn’t seen it.

 

At least he went out peacefully in his sleep. Can’t ask for much more than that.

I thought the band 'Yes' was Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe.

Late to praise Alan White but his drum sound on the entire 90125 album is incredible, his drumming on (the majority of) Imagine is what makes that album swing, and his behind-the-beat shuffle on “Instant Karma” is absolutely iconic.
