I watched this on the 22nd and had been thinking about it and my relationship with my dad a lot since then. My dad unexpectedly/suddenly died yesterday morning. He was nothing like Shia’s father, but there are still things I struggle with from my upbringing along with certain elements of our relationship. I was touched by and really appreciated the way Shia framed their relationship, empathized with his father despite all the bullshit, etc. Man, that ending. Phew. Anyway, I’m glad I watched this before my dad passed and not after, but I definitely have a even deeper appreciation for this film and my father now.

 

Sorry to hear that. Certainly a powerful film.
