Busta’s first 4 albums are all really good. May listen to some now actually.

 

I can’t remember what he called it but whatever the BBD Poison remix was I really loved upon first hearing it.

Edit: Outta My Mind. Still rips.

 

DMX’s condition hasn’t improved. Reports say he’s in a vegetative state on life support with little to no brain activity. I feel for his family and loved ones because I imagine we will hear of his passing soon, but being there in the hospital with someone during these days and not wanting to let go of hope is the hardest thing to deal with.

 

Overdose, heart attack, and Covid. Man...

 

Damn, that’s really sad. I never really listened to him but my thoughts and prayers have been with him and his family all this week. What a nightmare.

 

I know you're a real student of the culture so I definitely recommend that you listen to the first three DMX albums (and if you're into them, maybe The Great Depression and Grand Champ too). At that point in time he really was one of the few artists at the very top of the industry. There really wasn't much of difference between him and someone like Jay Z.

 

I love how he wasn't even pretending that he was rapping

 

What @The Lucky Moose said. DMX’s first two were the benchmark for late 90s hip hop IMO. Not many got close. Definitely give the first three a listen.

The DMX situation is so sad. Me and my buddies must have listened to this song a million times my senior year of high school.

 

He had so many great beats around this time. Ruff Ryders anthem is Swizz Beats first credited chart beat, what a way to start!

 

Sadly the YouTube version is so censored that you can’t understand what X is even saying, but this was a wild track too (and also related to the recent Busta talk)

 

It's Dark And Hell Is Hot is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all-time.

Unfortunately, I never liked any of his other albums nearly as much, but there is still PLENTY of good DMX material scattered throughout his first five albums.

This is a fine list, but it's mostly just the singles that mostly everyone knows (nothing wrong with that). But, I've always preferred his deeper/darker cuts than the singles.

 

It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot is really something else...

 

I’ve got about half his first album up there cause that’s a personal favorite. I guess this is a visit list for anyone just starting to take the dive. Sometimes, especially for that era of rap, full length albums can be a bit draining.
