tbf, I enjoy both a moderate amount and neither is heads/shoulders above the other. They have fun songs and are comparable. I think what Boats does with his voice is more interesting than anything Uzi has done; however, Uzi can craft more coherent, well written songs.

I think there's a chance Yachty gets better over time. Has some of the tools, lacking the toolbox - still only 19. I'm not a huge fan but I'm keeping an ear out

The age argument never made much sense to me looking at how young some rappers were when they made legit classics. I guess some do get better with age though.

yachty is so inoffensive its hard for me to care much one way or the other, seems like a total waste of energy beyond "broccoli" being incredible

Maybe not technically the best rapper, but Yachty has quite a few bangers.

    Uzi too

Took in Funcrusher Plus for the first time. Cool, cool record. Loved El's production more than anything, but obviously there were some great references/rhymes throughout. The biggest issue I saw with it is that almost every verse, at least in the first half of the record, seemed to just be trying to cram as many words into it as possible and it made things kind of chaotic. Idk, I have started to wonder if I put too much focus on liking/disliking particular flows that it leads me to being over-critical often.

I'm just working through Pitchfork's top 100 of the 90's! I have always been silently, inwardly embarrassed by my lack of hip-hop knowledge (both musically and culturally), and luckily this list is back-loaded as fuck with rap releases so it's doubled as a springboard of sorts into an already deeper understanding/appreciation.

Listened to the track he named after my state and yeah, very unimpressed. Annoying but mostly, just there, haha.

And finally tonight, took my first go at The Chronic. Honestly, didn't wow me that much. I figured the profanity and subject matter would hold me back from enjoying it (which, couldn't have been more off, this is one of the most thematically engulfing hip-hop albums I've taken in); honestly it was more the production that fell flat for me. Too much of it felt relatively empty (maybe this is just a west coast thing), but moreso I heard things that seemed ever so slightly incorrect or 'off' in the production (referring here to a myriad of vamping synth lines), and it became a bit annoying. Paired with Dre not being the most versatile MC, this record clearly (to me) floats by on the strength of its guests and the ubiquity of a handful of its tracks. I realize I'm not saying anything anyone in here doesn't already know, but Snoop and especially Lady of Rage are just fucking fire on this thing.

I certainly appreciate The Chronic more for other music it inspired
