I too saw Bubba Sparxx. It was a fun show, I drank a bunch of Bud Light Platinums

 

I've only seen a few "bad" performances, and really it's usually just lazy performances, and usually from newer acts... but the endless opening acts/DJs, and the headliner not going on until 1:30 in the morning, I've dealt with far too many times.

 

My second ever gig was an Eminem show. 2000, just after MMLP had come out. When he was in full cartoon mode, dressing up in dungarees and wielding a chainsaw. Got to see Xzibit and Mark B & Blade support too. My little 16/17 year old self couldn't believe his luck.

How the fuck was that 21 years ago this year??

 

the worst hip hop performance I’ve seen was playboi carti at camp flog gnaw 2018. was just walking around on stage while the studio versions of the songs would play and he’d yell maybe 30% of the lyrics over the track. All while his dj would pause every minute to demand we mosh

 

Mos Def was at Rock the Bells in Amsterdam and based on his performance I would guess he was enjoying some particular things that city has to offer a little too much

 

Sadly that's pretty common. Luckily I never went to a show where someone did that. I really don't see the point lol

 

I waited like 4 hours for Chiddy Bang to perform at Penn State

 

I saw Lil Wayne on the beach years ago for MTV spring break. Everybody waited hours for him and when he finally showed up he performed Fireman and then walked right back off stage. The crowd was all so shocked we just kind of stood around another 10 minutes assuming he’d come back out but he never did. I also saw LL Cool J and Juelz Santana down there and they were both a lot of fun.

 

Cam’ron was 90 mins late last year but once he actually showed up it was fucking awesome.

 

I saw LL too. He was crazy good. That was in 05 or 06 or something like that.

Also did LL and Juelz do their song? I immediately thought of that one reading your post lol

I saw LL, Fat Joe, Pharoahe Monch, De La Soul, EPMD, The Pharcyde, Mos Def, Boyz II Men, Alicia Keys, Brian McKnight, Nas, Janelle Monae, The Roots, Mariah Carey and Beyonce & Jay Z. I might be forgetting someone.

The Roots had sound problems (it was in a huge soccer stadium, they were the opener). Alicia Keys was cool whenever she sat at the piano instead of engaging in some very awkward choreographies. Mos Def was a mess. Jay Z & Beyonce were great but the sound was also terrible (same soccer stadium). The rest was outstanding.

 

I've seen: Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Jay-Z, Kanye, Astronautalis, Macklemore (LOL), Kendrick Lamar (well before he blew up), Wale.

Was supposed to see DMX a few years ago, had tickets, but read horror story after horror story about him showing up hours late, only playing 20 minutes or so, so I sold the tickets.

The fucked up thing is that, if he does show up and doesn’t leave right away, his shows are apparently amazing

 

craziest/most awkward hip hop show I ever saw was Raekwon perform Cuban Linx to me and literally 6 other people

 

my wife and I were struggling to get a babysitter - let alone one to stay until 1 am - so it wasn’t worth the risk, haha.

 

This new Gabe ‘Nandez EP is great. I listened to and liked his last full length when it came out a couple of years ago, but never went back to it. Definitely revisiting it at some point.

This EP is great too...

 

I've seen entirely too many artists live to list them all lol. I've actually gotten incredibly lucky with rap shows, I've had to see some bad openers but never bad headlining acts, and they've even usually been on time except for Kid Cudi being like 90 minutes late one time, but I was seeing him in DC and it was the same night he was with Kanye at MSG on the day TLOP came out so he had to go from NYC to DC lol

 

Wat that sounds amazing

 

It was incredible but also kinda sad. It was the same weekend as SXSW (but in Dallas) so I think a lot of people were there, but I was still flabbergasted at how sparce the attendance was. Freddie Gibbs was supposed to open but got stuck in Austin unfortunately.
