Pretty surprised by this Rylo Rodriguez tape. He's got a good ear for melody and I think his deeper voice stands out among many of the other sing-rappers around right. I also think the album title + cover combo is hilarious.

This new YOD album is standardly great. He's the same kinda rapper as Action Bronson at this point. Consistently great and has moved past the early "oh, he just sounds like Nas" comments when he first came out like Bronson had with the Ghostface comparisons.

 

I always thought there are worse things than sounding like Nas or Ghostface or for that matter Tupac or Biggie (shoutout to Tha Realest and Guerrilla Black)

I don't mind personally, I'm down with whatever the consensus is. There are definitely some records I'm thinking about that are pitched between hip-hop and R&B.

 

I gotta be honest, this hasn't been my favorite year for hip-hop, I think a lot of artists who I enjoy have either held back their albums til after the pandemic (Kendrick probably) or just didn't release anything. I have trouble connecting to full albums from most of the youngn's too, so not a ton stuck with me
