Benny the Butcher album is so good

 

I'm glad to say that my worries were premature. Burden of Proof is bloody great and even the two tracks he released sound better in an album context.

 

I just saw an IG story of someone I went to high school with congratulating another person I went to high school with for his birthday, using the song Happy Birthday by Piper (of Flypside) through the Spotify integration function that IG has. You know, the extremely depressing abortion song from 2005 lol

 

Man, Benny is just so uninteresting to me. Really depends on the beats/features when it comes to him. Flow/voice just doesn't do much for me.


Also, Manger on McNichols is on Apple Music now! Probably my favorite hip hop release this year

Black Thought is just peerless when it comes to rapping. I know it's cliche at this point to call him under-appreciated, but he not only has insane lyrical content -- he's also got an all-time rapping voice, charisma, flow, swagger....he's truly one of the best to ever do it. I almost think the credit he gets as a "super lyrical" rapper does a disservice to how much of an all-around incredible artist he is.

 

He's actually a pretty damn good singer too

 

Black Thought was Big Pun's favourite rapper. I always found that very fitting because in a way they were similar.

 

Speaking of Big Pun, I'm currently listening to one old rap album after another from my CD collection in the car and the last few days I've been working my way through Fat Joe's Don Cartagena (which has a lot of Pun on it) and that's still a really fucking good 90s rap album.

Next up is MA Doom: Son of Yvonne, the Masta Ace album on which he raps about his upbringing over MF Doom beats from the Specials Herbs series of instrumental releases.

Favorite album of the year is probably SahBabii right now. That thing isn’t getting enough love around these parts.
