The production is what sets it apart for me. Metro is in his damn bag.

I finished savage mode 2 and yeah that’s a good album but nothing makes it stand out from the rest.

I also finally finished my listen of the new amine and I have to say I think it is a step down from one point five tbh.

Savage Mode 2 was ok. Like a lot of rap in that style, I seemed to enjoy it whilst it was on but couldn’t tell you one good thing about it after it was done.

Junk food rap. Good, but you wouldn’t want it every day.

Good description of this phenomenon that unfortunately seems to be all too prevalent this year.

Don’t think Savage Mode 2 is junk food rap at all but I know what you mean by the phrase. I have felt that way about a lot of other releases this year. This feels different. The production is outstanding. 21 is rapping at his best. There are a few songs I would take off and I don’t think it really harkens back to the vibe of Savage Mode 1 much at all. But it’s a cohesive listen front to back even if he’s just talking about the same old things.

It's actually insane how much 21 Savage improved at rapping over such a short time. He was just kind of eh for Savage Mode 1 and Issa but somewhere around Without Warning or the Metro album he was all of a sudden killing every verse, and I Am>I Was is a fucking great album. Haven't gotten around to SM2 yet though

21 Savage as a whole to me is rap junk food, which doesn’t mean bad

Yeah, junk food rap isn’t necessarily bad. It just doesn’t stand out from the rest.

I still think Issa is his best, but I know that’s not a popular opinion.

"Junk food rap" sounds like a term made up by old head backpack rap fans that stan Joe Budden.

It does but for me the decade doesn’t matter, junk food rap always existed

Right, I get that. I just don’t agree that this particular album is junk food rap.

Take out the Joe Budden bit and that’s me

But like Moose said, junk food rap has been about since the beginning. There’s always stuff out there that, for me, kinda lacks substance and made for a quick fix. It’s not bad, just not memorable.

I actually thought savage mode 2 was a blast. Definitely my strongest impression of a 21 savage project yet, which usually just have 2-4 songs I'm into

Honestly a lot of y’all would probably consider Key Glock - Yellow Tape junk food music and that’s like one of my favorites releases this year lol. I think a lot of us just look for different things in the music we consume. To each their own. I’ll enjoy my fast food music with a big McFlurry and a Big Mac.

    hey you lil piss baby

Memorable is such a funny way to discuss the merit (or w/e) of music because it’s probably as subjective or more so than taste. Also, a lot of music is memorable because it’s bad! I get what people are expressing though.

Haven’t heard the whole tape yet, but the few tracks I have heard point to it being one of the better projects of its ilk this year. Uzi is probably the only great record(s) I can think of from that wave this year, but there’s been a bunch of scattered hits from others.

I only used the term because someone defined it as music that is fun while you listen but doesn’t stick with you. That’s how I feel about 21 Savage. Though “a lot” did stick with me.
