Listened to Diplomatic Immunity by the Diplomats last night for the first time. It's a long album and I didn't finish, but I really liked just about every song. When I read reviews about it from 2003 when it came out, a lot of people hated it. Don't understand why.

It has some great tracks on it but I'd assume the negativity comes from how bloated it is.

It is bloated, and the skits are awful. I was constantly having to skip through. But it was still a great album to listen to because I was in the mood for some early 2000's hip hop. I'll check out more of the artists' solo work tonight. Always ignored Cam'ron and his crew for some reason.

Idk I think that's one of the few double albums that I never felt was too bloated. Also the high points are all absolutely incredible. Heatmakerz just simply did not miss (back then)

I also think Come Home With Me is every bit as good as Purple Haze but I realize I'm probably in the minority on that

That Dipset/old Kanye style soul sampling might be my favorite kind of hip-hop production honestly

I'd listen to the Griselda albums even if they were instrumental tapes

I go through phases but that's what I've been in the mood for as of late.

So I listened to both Purple Haze and Come Home With Me - Purple Haze is great lyrically and the beats aren't bad either, it just didn't have that production style that I've been thirsting for. No Just Blaze, and Kanye had changed his style by that point. But in a different state of mind I would have loved it.

Come Home With Me on the other hand did have that production style. I never really went out of the way to listen to Cam as I said earlier, but a lot of the songs on this album were familiar to me and scratched the nostalgia itch. Of course everyone has heard "Oh Boy" - it's stuck in my head right now! Intro was gripping, Welcome to New York City stood out to me. I love Juelz Santana on this album.

Me too. I really can't stand the "trap" sound that's popular these days. I try and give things a chance but as soon as I hit play and hear the same fucking whirring hi hat I groan haha.

When a trap beat is unique and really hits then it fucking HITS for me, but a lot of them are very samey

I have another take about old rap songs:

I think "Knowing nothing in life, but to be legit / Don't quote me, boy, 'cause I ain't said shit" is the greatest line of all time.

Am I the only one who thinks that it is wild that *the* artist of the pandemic is a former member of Boogie Down Productions?
