Just checked out the Mavi album for the first time thanks to those in this thread. This one def would have made my top albums list had I heard it earlier. Don’t know how I missed it.

new Rich Homie Quan album out today and it's flaaaames. Only on track 4 but Lies is a damn good song. A lot of guitar on these beats which is nice.

Highly rec it for those who enjoyed the recent Rod Wave

Did a smaller GB version leak? The one I saw was like 10 and I’m not gonna do that to my computer

I rented it on my Xbox for $4. Whenever it’s feasible, as a fan of Peep I got a lot out of it. The Malick influence is present, as a portrait of the guy it’s a pretty fulfilling portrait.

Anyone else noticed the thing that all these emo rappers that rock labels have been signing recently have in common?

I tweeted about these bands the other, after not hearing any of their music before, the connection to hip hop is pretty minimal compared to the connection to like Metro Station or what have you IMO

Like I predicted, no album came on the 12th but something appears to be coming.

Yeah to me this sounds like pop punk/emo/whatever kids that listened to a lot of (emo) rap, not pop punk kids trying to make (emo) rap.

  19. Was Depart From Me by Cage the first emorap album? I remember it being panned at the time.

The first emo rap album was The Diary by Scarface

Yeah they're branding it as emo rap or what ever, but it has so much more of a connection to 2010's warped tour bands.

Anyway, stream Not Lovely, the only midwestern emo hip hop jazz band in existence.

About 10 years ago, i'd be listening to that over and over again. But I haven't really liked an Atmosphere album since The Family Sign. Southsiders had some good tracks I think, but everything since has been a bit meh. I'll probably still give it a listen, though

Them, Aesop, Sage Francis and El-P got me back into hip hop in about 2003/2004. I couldn't stand a lot of the watered down mainstream r'n'b-hop in the mid noughties and those guys were exactly what I needed to get back into proper rap. They hold a special place in my heart. But I only really listen to them and Sage for a nostalgia hit these days. Aes and El are still on a semi regular rotation. though.

And so ends Paulo's personal old heads history lesson.
