I..... I just, I dunno about this. Both of these songs have the EXACT same flow over extremely similar beats. Vocally it just has that drawly off-beat thing that everyone is doing.

Here's the thing with me, nothing about either of these songs sounds any different from your average soundcloud/youtube video. I'm generally curious, what makes this stand out above the rest for you? The beats are surely not exciting, is it the lyrics themselves you connect to? Not trying to be rude, haha.

  3. When it comes to catching up on hip hop, this year was a failure on my part so the only ones I listened to were pretty much disappointments lol. I did love Little Simz, Saweetie, Megan Thee Stallion, Ivy Sole, Rapsody though... the girls really brought their A game.

This was totally the year of the ladies kicking ass in hip hop, my favorites of the year certainly were more from females

Again, as a newly appointed old head, I definitely am not trying to be rude. But when you listen to that song, what do you like about it, how do you feel? Treat this like I am doing a research project. Do you like the music? The lyrics? The flow? His vocals in general? The vibes? Whatchu got, teach me ya'll children!!

I do think his lyrics are pretty poignant but I mostly think it’s an incredibly catchy song. It’s definitely one of the best hooks I’ve heard this year. I actually prefer the remix with Lil Baby and Gunna but I just think they’re a little more interesting than Lil Tjay.

VERY INTERESTING to me. As a pop music connoisseur, I wasn't really pulled into any hook on the song, nor did I find it particularly "catchy," but I suppose I probably am a bit jaded

I think the EARTHGANG album might be my favorite hip hop album of the year actually, I feel like they're doing something special

Earl, Tha God Fahim, Mach Hommy, Wiki, Droog are all good this year. Haven’t been up on the trendy stuff that much

  12. I was terrible at listening to new hip-hop this year. I can't even remember everything I listened to, and I didn't go back to a lot of albums enough to form strong opinions.

I liked that Open Mike Eagle project that came out, but maybe that was 2018? Also liked a good amount of that Rico Nasty project. 21, Dreamville, and Madlib/Gibbs albums had good stuff.

Didn't get around to listening much to the Billy Woods, KRIT, Tyler, Benny the Butcher, Danny Brown, and Brother Ali albums. I was really lazy this year.

I don’t know how under the radar these albums were or weren’t in this thread this year, but I really enjoyed them.

I don’t consider myself an old head at all but I’m with you. Vocals and melody sounds very samey to a lot of other trap shit that’s popular these days IMO. Beat was boring. Did you like the Rico Nasty album from this year? The stray Tierra Whack singles that were released this year were also pretty incredible. Overall not my favorite year for hip-hop though there were a couple standouts

Tierra singles are awesome, enjoyed what I have heard from Rico but haven't dug in, actually had fun with Doja Cat, Rapsody album is excellent, Jamila Woods is cool, Noname's output is always solid.... I dunno man, women really are the ones that seem to be pushing the genre in new directions in 2019 rather than staying in stagnant boxes
