What's everyone's favourite year for hip hop this decade?

Thinking about it now and it's probably 2016

 

I think about this a lot and it’s definitely 2017 for me. Feel like ‘15 was strong too.

2017 is probably second for me

 

Whilst 2019 has not been a brilliant year, it has still had some really solid releases. Definitely not a poor year, not by a long shot.

 

She’s the new shooting star of Ukrainian Hip Hop. She has skills. Media and listeners across the continent have recently been paying attention to her.

Whatever year My Krazy Life came out. 2014? Also wasn’t Tribe in 2016? I remember that year having some great albums.

 

my artist of the year and decade on that Spotify rewind was Vince Staples.

I listen to that man so much.

 

My artist of the year was a German rapper, but literally only because I listened to one song a million times. Haven’t really listened to any other song by him more than once or twice. Spotify is broken lol

 

Spotify listed Madlib as my most listened to artist of the year. Which is technically true, but only due to Madgibbs, Madvillian and his solo stuff combined.

Last.fm is best for collating accurate info IMO.

 

Last.fm is so easy to use with Spotify I'm surprised it isn't used by more people

 

Listening to the E-40 album from this year for the first time in a while. Forgot how good it is.

 

2015 was the best year for hip hop in recent memory and 2019 was one of the worst

 

I don't know Polo G, but I never really been into Thug much and I like the Gibbs/Madlib album for sure, but not like... blown away WOWed by it

 

Check out Polo G. I think you might like him. He's more "lyrical" (for lack of a better term) than a lot of other modern rappers. And at least listen to Surf and Hot from the new Thug, I think they're unique/different enough that you might dig them.

 

Will add to my playlist now. What are two good Polo G tracks to start with?
