I mean they’re more or less all great rappers on there but it still looks like it was made by a random number generator lol

I know people are arguing over the order but I'm pleasantly surprised that Lupe made the list, and pretty high up like he deserves

I understand but also you probably shouldn’t care in any way about one of your favs making or not making the list of some podcast lol

I tried to make a list like that several times but I can't. An objective one is more or less impossible, but I can't even make a subjective one because I'll always go for nostalgia over current preferences.

There are no parameters as to what it's based on. Is it lyrical ability? Is it based on their entire discography? Personal preference? Can't really comment at all without all the facts. Because without them... well, it's not good.

I'm drunk as fuck at the moment, which is arguably the best moment in which to rank a top 5:

    Andre 3k
    Ghostface
    Earl Sweatshirt
    Eyedea
    Kool G Rap

(this list entirely subjective and not in any way beholden to antiquated ideas of objectivity)

he got me through some nasty times and was mad consistent so for sure! that list is generally based on consistency across discog as much as peak rap ability which is why I left off the likes of Jay-Z and Nas who had massive highs but deeply inconsistent output

    (also fuck Nas)

I don’t think Jay’s output is all that inconsistent, but also I was kinda raised on that kind of discography. Like the discography of a Jay or say an LL is very different from that of a Kool G Rap. They’re arguably more inconsistent but that’s also they have more room for inconsistencies, if that makes sense. That’s not to say Kool G Rap’s isn’t great.

Anyway, I think I have like three versions of a top 10, all equally true for me lol

Last time I made a personal top 10 the only post-2010 rapper that made the cut was YG but he’s been letting me down lately and doesn’t have the youth nostalgia advantage lol

My approach has always been "this rapper must have meant a lot to me at some point in time"
