Growing up in London all I really heard was Grime or Eminem. I didn't know good hip hop existed until I was like 19 lol

Oh man, I was obsessed with Eminem from the time I was in like fourth grade until around freshman year. Haven’t listened to an album of his since Recovery and really don’t want to. His old stuff doesn’t really hold up either, other than his first two.

    Just a friendly reminder

MBDTF was my ticket into allowing myself to enjoy rap music unreservedly. I liked some of it before, but iono, I wasn't allowing myself to enjoy it with the enthusiasm that I should. Then I got obsessed with MBDTF and I opened myself up.

I started on Kendrick with Section.80 but I think GKMC is a great gateway record for rap, even if it's not my favourite. It has something for everyone: bangers, R&B jams, throwback tracks, detailed storytellers, message songs. It's conceptual while also being very accessible. Modern with 90's sounds and sensibilities.

Yeah I think it's how London most Grime artists sound that I don't like lol

My brother played Bone Thugs E. 1999 Eternal when I was like 4 so technically that was the first one I heard but College Dropout was the first actual hip hop album that I owned and led me to listening to more of the genre.

    Trusted

My intro was probably something 50/Em related when I was like 11

First album I was into on any real level was Finding Forever by Common

Or maybe A Grand Don’t Come for Free by The Streets, but I don’t really count that

Probably like video game soundtracks at first then BIG/Fugees singles that my cousin would play. My first full albums were Ja Rule, Nelly and Eminem

Just jumping to say this year has had in fact a ton of great releases(Phonte, BP soundtrack, Saba, Nick F, Freddy etc.). I never heard Amine before, but I checked out his new album. I personally really liked it.

Also that Nostrum Grocers album is still in my rotation. Good stuff.

Yeah he used to be tight with Drake, I remember first hearing about him on Comeback Season

“Me and Nickel F go together like burgers and diners, yes”

What a terrible line too lol
