Basically I agree with you 100%.

What disappoints me the most though is that there were people in the thread who were genuinely trying to educate and they were being drowned out by people being assholes. Anna wrote a thread on Twitter (that I'm EXTREMELY upset that I can't find right now because it hits the nail on the head perfectly, but it was) about like how when there are men who genuinely want to learn more and have questions answered, other men respond angrily and immediately put the men in group A on the defensive, and women who want to educate said men now can't get through because those men are defensive from being attacked over wanting to learn. I think that's something that applies here and it bums me out that it just turned into some privileged people yelling at other privileged people about how privileged they are.

There are definitely worse groupmind mentalities I've witnessed, given that at least this one is over positive things, but it does still end up being counterproductive when it just turns into attacking others and using the cop-out of "I don't have to explain myself over and over" because yeah, it takes effort to make change. It's exhausting. But that's part of it. Sure we don't have to make excuses for shitty people or baby them, but there's a big difference between someone who's inherently evil and someone who just wants to learn more and gain perspective, and the instance that Dan interjected on was definitely the latter.

As far as the ganging up over something said a long time ago that you've apologized for and grown from, I definitely relate to that with this community as you know, and it really really sucks. I really don't even know how to feel about it because I get having to deal with consequences and all that and I get that things you put online stay there...but yeah. At a certain point it becomes obvious that it's changed from being about what you said to being about what they want to do with it, and that's aggravating.

I don't know. I could say more about it probably but my head hurts haha. It's been a draining week.

 

It's just like I get that everyone's frustrated because we're in an evil place as an entire society right now. There's just gotta be a better way to handle it.

 

HR made me go get an x-ray and the tip of my finger bone snapped clean off.

 

@supernovagirl was really kind in defending me in there. That made me feel better. I still feel awful about how I acted that day, giant learning lesson.
