we talked about this a little on my podcast and what sucked the most for me is that i don't even think Peter was a bad brother or a jerk to Charlie. I think all things considered, he was pretty good. He tried to make the party palatable to both of them, he looked away for an instant, and he immediately tried to do his best to fix that mistake to the most absurd tragic end. How could he have processed that in any way that made sense? That whole scene of him going home to lay in bed just broke me. I think part of him truly hoped that he imagined it and his sister followed him inside and he was holding his breath when his mom went to the car and hoping she wouldn't find anything.

I think hearing the sound of the mother finding it, then cutting to the head on the road was probably the most intense way they could have done that. If we were shrouded in gore at first it would have almost been like the audience was desensitized to it at that point.

I think as soon as Charlie was dead, Paimon started to try and set up shop. I think he got his foot in the door with how traumatized Peter was immediately after the accident but then wasn't able to fully take over till he was totally broken at the end.

Yeah, think of the whiplash he felt with her being in grave danger leading up to that moment only for her to die in a much worse way. He’s in panic mode trying to get to the hospital and then in one instance it’s just over. He might have even considered still driving to the hospital and you can’t help but wish that he had for his mom’s sake.

I think it's also pretty telling that he doesn't try to cover it up in any way, like trying to get away with something and not get in trouble. It's just......there.

I think Peter even starting to see that light at all meant he was already being influenced yea, like Charlie was seeing it and the director confirmed Paimon already had her. So from the point of Charlie dying and him seeing the light at different points means Paimon was there in some capacity

So, I loved the trailer for this, because it didn't give too much away like every other trailer tends to do. After seeing the movie, I love it even more. What a mind fuck.

What’s crazy is how the trailer low key spoils Charlie’s death at the 45 second mark.

I was mad at her husband for not believing her and thinking she had dug up her dead mom but then I was also like "wait, wtf is he supposed to think is going on here" lol. If I was him I would have dipped out of that house after witnessing that seance voodoo shit though.

Loved the husband. Thought he was hilarious. The scene with him at the stoplight was heavy too

  15. Rewatching the trailer, it actually feels like it would spoil quite a bit if you actually knew what you were looking for, had watched it a lot, or had a very sharp memory.

I didn’t remember basically any of it when going to see the movie though. Only thing that stuck out to me particularly was Charlie’s funeral scene, and how the trailer kinda frames it to look like the grandmother’s burial. Seeing it in the movie I was like “woah, okay trailer makers, I see you”

seance scene creeped me out too. Imagine the horror of suddenly being plunged back into existence when the last thing to happen to you was seeing a pole coming straight for your face.

I kinda wanna watch the trailer now having seen the movie and not having seen the trailer before

    Assume It's A Bit

The way the trailer was framed really made a lot of the stuff about Charlie's death seem like it was about the grandma (the funeral, "She's not gone" etc.)

Smart marketing if you ask me.

The extra emphasis put on Charlie in the marketing is a terrific red herring. I feel like it actually would make the twist more shocking having seen the trailer, even though it nearly spells out what happens.

I haven’t! I’m not sure how much I’m going to like it so I’m waiting to see if it’ll pop up at my $5 cinema.

No yea I watched the trailer like 3 times before seeing the movie, and 100% thought that funeral scene was for the grandmother and that Charlie was gonna be the "final girl" or at the very least in it almost all the way until the end. Pretty crazy and awesome.

My thing now is going into movies with a clean slate... if there’s hype and I like the genre, I’ll see it. I avoided any marketing for this and only knew Toni Collette was in this a few days before seeing it and from ads on social media, knew someone erupted in flames. After I see it then I’ll watch the trailer. Room is an example of a movie I am so glad I didn’t see the trailer beforehand, would have spoiled a scene that genuinely got me very emotional when seeing the movie.
