That's what I assumed... was it the grandma as well when Annie first sees the ghostly apparition after turning off the lights in her studio?

 

I think it's safe to assume it is.

 

There was another woman that I think Charlie saw who didn't look like the grandmother to me. Was it meant to be a cult member or a vision of the grandmother from a different time? That's on my list to look for next time.

There was someone in the parking lot across the school yard that I didn't think was the grandmother, or the friend.

 

Yea I think she makes an appearance at the end as a cult member? Like she was naked in the attic. Has red-ish shoulder-ish length hair I think? I might be crazy.

 

I can't remember for sure, I just remember it looking like a middle-aged woman with long, reddish brown hair. I don't remember thinking that anyone looked specifically like who that was.

 

Yes! That description fits mine perfectly. I thought it might have been the playground but it's fuzzy. Her being at the end is perfect. Like another iteration of the man at the funeral.

 

Was it the lady watching her cut the head off the bird? I assume a cult member.

They should rename this to Herediscary.

 

The creepy lady across the street from Charlie is a cult member. Peter sees her in the attic before he jumps out of the window. She does the creepy little wave thing then too.

 

That's awesome. I'm so glad she was one that was specifically visible. Did anyone ever figure out if his crush was actually there or if that person was just trolling/wrong?

 

I watched really carefully on round two- I think the confusion was that Joan is facedown for most of the scene with her hair down and it's long/the same color as the crush's. I didn't see the crush anywhere.

 

Aster gave his top films from his top 10 directors for Criterion. There is a disappointing inclusion of some glowing praise for Polanski, but some of the other choices are pretty interesting. I would have guessed a fair amount of these, but Mike Leigh especially was out of left field. Very cool to see him get some praise here.

It's funny to see the audience score on RT, especially since I had my infamous theater group so I saw it first hand. I'm a little sad I didnt actually turn around and be like "I'm super curious, what made you dislike the movie?"

 

Just want to say I don't think I've ever seen a thread so active for a movie, one that wasn't a huge blockbuster, a week after release. This movie deserves it though.

I'm STILL thinking about it a week later. Need to see it again

 

Yea coming into the thread I was kind of shocked how many posts it had already. Good stuff.

 

This is my current favorite thread. So many cool new things are still opening up and I love unpacking it with everyone.

 

Oh if you want a fun little personal thing, my own mom died a few years ago and I have an urn with her cremations. When I got back from the movie I went over to it and said "Mom, bless you, you didn't pull that shit with me/my sister/my dad"

 

Link? It's interesting how a story develops.

 

Part of the reason I saw it the other night was that I knew I was interested, but this thread being bumped dozens of times a day made me think that it must have been crazy good.
