What were all the words written on the walls and their meanings? And what was the connection between those in the actual house and Annie writing words on one of her models' walls?

Just got home from seeing this and holy fuck.. I’m still getting chills thinking of that whole car accident/driving home scene. My mouth was open for like 3 min. Very well executed. Scary, gripping, heavy stuff. Alex Wolffs acting in this scene was top notch.

so the cult definitely orchestrated Charlie’s death eh

the pole that rocks Charlie's head off has the Paimon cult symbol on it. Everything leading to that is so precise that it's stupid to believe they actually orchestrated it that way, but the movie definitely implies it.
[edit] I'm referring to the movie being dumb, not you.

Might’ve been the craziest thing I’ve seen in a movie theater. Totally unexpected. My friend who I was with and I both had the same reaction of slack jawed shock

The only criticisms I have are that the end was a little too on the nose and Annie finding Joanie in the scrapbooks felt too convenient. Besides that this was pretty much excellent

I just saw it, super super cool. There was a group in the theater with me that talked shit about it while getting out of the theater, but I get why. It isn't like, a usual big time horror movie. Feel very much like an indie Netflix-type horror but in a good way. There was only ONE jump scare which I think is fantastic, jump scares are cheap to me. Just a nice unsettling tension throughout the whole movie, it wasn't SUPER SCARY but I don't need that for an effective horror movie if it has the tension and such.

I gotta say I was NOT expecting Charlie to get GOT that early. They really marketed it like she was gonna be this person who played off her mother throughout the movie (I mean she did but in another way!), I REALLY dig that they did it like that. And the ending.....oof. Really really liked it.

I wish we could’ve learned just a liiiil bit more about the cult / the rituals

I guess I just meant they were responsible, cuz yeah I definitely don’t think they made the cake

So the way I took the whole cult thing was that they wanted Charlie and then improvised when Peter killed her? It's still kind of convenient that then the male host was the "better" option but yea. I could be mis-remembering or mis-interpreting a detail though.

I totally bought Peter getting emotional and crying. As someone who at times from teenage years to adulthood, crying shouldn’t be stigmatized, especially when it deals with trauma. He accidentally killed his sister and his mother puts him to blame and then later is scared when her spirit may be present and doesn’t know how to process it

when annie tells joan that her daughter died in the parking lot of annie’s second meeting, were to assume she already knows, right? it’s likely her that’s smoking outside of their house but is never shown earlier on?

I'm not remembering the smoking thing for some reason but I'd say yea she already knew in that parking lot and was setting things into motion.

Actually the more I think about it, Joan was totally trying to one up Annie to get her to sympathize!

    "Oh my daughter died"

"oh yea my son AND grandson died"

    "oh my daughter was 13"

"oh YEA well my grandson was 7"

Speaking of which, Ann Dowd was a great casting choice considering her role in The Leftovers

Yeah, I didn’t find it be a big reveal (if it was even meant to be a reveal to the audience ) about Joan (Joanne?) since it seemed so obvious that she was up to no good (also doesn’t help that Ann Dowd never plays a good person in her other shows) and they basically told you when Annie comments on her welcome mat

i think it's the scene early on. we see peter start to smoke weed in his room near the window and then the shot goes outside the window from below and you see like a cigarette glow and smoke as if someone is in the yard

ooooooo ok yea I vaguely remember now, not sure if we could say it was specifically Joan but definitely a cult member in general yea

I thought the plan all along was to kill Charlie so peter could be host tbh

Well yea that could still go along with my thinking that they had to kind of improvise after what Peter did, because there's no way they could have led to that happening even with the pole having the symbol on it.

Also one thing I thought while watching: we don't know the time frame of course, but how the hell did they let Peter back in school so quickly after that event? They HAD to of known he would be fucked up by it all, unless he straight up said "No yea it's ok I can go back" but since they didn't show anything I dunno.

Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

They wanted to do Peter in the first place but the relationship between the Grandmom and Annie was fractured at the time, hence them grooming Charlie (who may already have had been possessed by Paimon much before the film opens), but since Paimon prefers a male host everything was more or less orchestrated from the jump.

It seems like the movie actually takes place over a stretch of a few months if not a year, bc Charlie’s death happens “months” after the grandmother’s death, according to Annie when she first meets Joanie
