I always feel like a powerful fast goddess when I am jogging but I had my boyfriend record me to look at my stride/posture and oh my God I look like such a goober when I run lol

It should be illegal for doctors to post blood/lab test results with zero context included. My annual physical is tomorrow, so I got my bloodwork done this morning and my results were emailed and now I’m sweating bullets trying to figure out what everything means, haha.

Ha that happened to me too and then it was all fine after I'd already convinced myself I was dying

Yeah, I do this every year, by freaking myself out and then they’re like “everything is good” and I’m like “no, things are flagged!!!l” and they’re like “yeah, but everything else is normal”

Like, would it kill them to put a note on the bottom?

my appointment is tomorrow, so luckily I don’t have to wait long for context but it’s my typical results: I’ve always had a low WBC, a slightly high cholesterol and bilirubin. Although this year is a bit worse than last year, but my doctor last year also told me I was a “poster boy for good health” so I’m hoping things didn’t slip too harshly.

Don’t think I’ve ever had a blood test / full checkup thing done. Been thinking about it for awhile as I try to run 5-6 marathons a year every year for the next decade, thinking it might be helpful in training to know if there’s small things I can improve upon like iron intake or whatever.

I actually finally convinced myself to make an appointment for my back pain which is huge personal growth because I never really choose to deal with anything until it’s a major problem but nothing ever gets to be a major problem so I never do any preventative maintenance lmao but I get random back pain for usually 4-5 days at least 2-3 times a year for the last decade and kind of want to just figure out with there’s something with PT I can do to strengthen my back so this goes away or, well, basically that’s all I’m looking for in my visit tomorrow since I know it’s nothing super serious and not gonna listen to anything more substantial than that

Honestly once I turned 30 (7 years ago) and became a parent, I started going to the doctor left and right.

It’s important to me to monitor my health so I’m there for my wife/kids and potentially catch anything early.

And then injury-wise, no use of going through pain or contemplating what type of injury you may or may not have when you can get told directly what’s going on and how to treat it. It’s always the worst when you’re experiencing pain and spend days/weeks/months googling it when you can just get the diagnosis straight from the doctor and save you all that stress and worry.

So long as your health insurance allows, I’d take advantage of your annual exams and specialty visits for specific injuries.

Yeah that all makes perfect sense.

i honestly think part of me doesn’t do that stuff because in a former life I dealt with insurance and short term disability at a company and I’d hear from PT’s and doctors how often they were buried in patients that didn’t need to be seen but refused to believe they were better or had super small superficial issues that they could address at home after one visit but kept overthinking it and coming back and I think subconsciously I didn’t want to ever be that type of person so I never went.

Hell, in my mid-20’s I remember working all day and then joining friends late for dinner and inhaling my meal to the point I had to stop because I could barely breathe, literally slept face down with my face off the side of the bed because the saliva my mouth made I could not swallow and this somehow didn’t register as a major problem lol and then called my doctor in the morning, was told they could see me at 4 pm that day, stayed home and literally had a bucket that I spit into because again, I could swallow the saliva in my mouth, so I didn’t eat or drink anything all day. Finally go there, he says he’s gonna prescribe me a pill because I must have explained the issue as like, an upset stomach or something and I finally then stopped him and said, “sorry but a pill won’t work, I can’t swallow it. I literally can’t swallow the spit in my mouth, that’s what this bucket is for” and he turns and looks at me, at the bucket, and then his eye is pop and he says, “Jesus Christ that sounds like you have an obstruction, we gotta get you into surgery right away” and he takes me through some secret passage to a room, they knock me out and remove a bunch of food stick in my esophagus.

Afterwards him and all the nurses greet me as a wake up and are in awe that i didn’t rush to the ER the night before when it first happened and jokingly thank me for not doing that as they would have all been called in.

I think back to that all the time because how fucking stupid was I! Who in the hell would not panic about that??? But 24 year old me was like, “eh; this will just go away on its own”. Nowadays I can’t even imagine not eating for 12+ hours straight let alone not drinking anything and the pain I was in. And goddamn if I would have rolled on my back I possibly would have choked to death in my sleep.

I have insurance and it's still expensive sometimes tbh. One time my doctor had me get several labs done over time and she never did identify what my problem was but I had to pay several hundred dollars for the pleasure and one of the times I passed out while getting the labs lol. It's why I keep my therapist. Even tho I have some issues with her she stopped charging me a copay after I'd seen her for a year and I can't go back to the copay life!

Last time I tried to go in for an annual checkup (my 2nd ever) the check in kiosk for the hospital group/system/whatever here said “we’d like $142 please” (I didn’t pay) when I should have a $25 copay, and no one at the clinic or my insurance company has explained why that happened and I haven’t gone back

I’ve always thought it’s weird that we get blood work back at all before a doc can comment on it. If they haven’t even seen it yet, why should I? That said, I’d appreciate the occasional “looks good.”

As a veterinarian I don’t send anyone blood work unless they specifically request it, which I understand if someone wants to have records but also they have no idea what any of it means. Interpretation can be a shockingly arduous task and I don’t think it’s the patient’s/client’s responsibility to worry about it. I hope we never get automated lab exporting because my messages will explode.

Yeah, doc said everything was fine, haha. I told him I know he has no control over this but labs really shouldn’t be giving results to their patients with zero context and he agreed.

I'm more of an exerciser than my bf but he's generally on his feet and has a more active job than me. Lately he's been joining me on my workouts but isn't as diligent about it as I am since he's already pretty active, but he wants to do more strength training. We usually excercise after i get home from work but today I exercised this morning while he was gone. but after work he wanted to exercise and I thought if I told him I already had then he wouldn't have the willpower to do it on his own so I worked out again and now I'm dead.

Went out too hard the first few miles of a 12-miler this morning. I thought I was dead by mile 5, but I was able to recover for close to an even split on the second half.

Had my 2nd piwerlifting meet yesterday. Hit 374 on squat, 264 on bench, 473 on deadlift for a total of 1,111lb. Didn't hit all the weights I wanted too so I'm a little bummed about that. I'm still happy with the weight I did though.

I got my booster and flu shot last Friday and my arm finally feels 100% back to normal to do weights again. Also I didn't get to excercise before the my chemical romance show last night and I'm really weird about liking to exercise on sundays so I was extra determined to dance and jump around for active minutes and it detected 64 minutes as a "sport" activity and burned a couple hundred calories B-)

Allie Bennett posts treadmill strut workouts and I am sure they're playlists I could make myself but she does so I don't have to and she just did a Carly Rae Jepsen one and it will be on!

2 days until the marathon! Luckily the rain is going to hold off, it seems, and the temps should be in the 60's but maybe climbing to 70-75 by the time I finish.

Also, I ended up with a playlist of 1500 songs to shuffle while I run. I should never get bored and will hopefully be consistently surprised and delighted by the music.
