Oftentimes I'll choose a workout on YouTube without seeing what all the exercises are first. And I just nope right out of there if they make me do burpees. No thanks not gonna happen. There are some exercises that are just not fun to me and that is one. I will sub it out for another exercise or if I'm already kinda cranky and not feeling it, I'll just choose an entirely new video. I used to do a dance workout class at my old gym and putting it to fun music was the only way to get me to burpee, and even then I wasn't thrilled about it. Death to burpees.

Yeah I don't even like when they have the routine so you're doing a floor exercise and then a standing one and then back to floor, etc. Get all the floor stuff done together and then all the standing stuff done. I don't like getting back up and down all the time. Idk what it is about it but I get v annoyed with it.

My partner had to do 300 burpees last week as a part of her gym challenge and I’m just like why would you subject yourself to that

A fun and brutal challenge is to take a deck of cards and assign each suit an exercise:
    Spades: Burpees
    Diamonds: push ups
    And so on…
Then you have to do the number that’s on the card. Then to make it “fun”, you can assign crazy numbers to the face cards.
See how much of the deck you can get through.

Here's a cross post I made in the Running Thread in the sports forum last Saturday. Just to kind of share some running success I've had since I started to run at age 30(now 36). Team sports in middle & high school, but after that little exercise:

"I also ran a PR 5k today! 19:47! I had a bit left to give which felt good since I wasn't totally defeated at the end or during. I felt strong. Not my "A" race; a tune up. On a damn hard course with some tough hills, 85 degrees and humidity out the wazoo(same as Craig). That's super cool to me for the fact that I'm focused on the ultra distance. 50 mile race in Sept which I'm hoping to beat my time from last year(sub 10 hour is my goal. 10:51 was last year). The training I've been doing is varied, pretty on purpose, and paying off well. Total volume has went up a lot from last year and I feel good. Hitting 50 and 60 miles per week on mostly trail, regularly, with a lot of climbing, with a down week in there every 4th week or so. 5-6.5k of vert per week average. Close to 10k vert last week with 60 miles. No injuries since last year. Recovery days are cherished and respected. I'm eating a ton of quality foods to keep me fueled and strong.

I've got a 50k next weekend and a hard 20 miler with a lot of vert the weekend after. All buildups for my 50 miler.

Back in May I won a trail 50k. 5h:54m that had 4600 ft of climbing along with hot and humid since it's the southeast.

(I ran in my Vaporfly Next % today. God bless those shoes)"

    /end cross post

I've eat a vegan lifestyle for the past 5 years and couldn't be happier with the way my body has taken to that. Unknown if I could be a better or worse runner if I were to incorporate meat to dairy back into my eating habits, but I'm not going to find out.

I usually hate group classes or working out with people in general (even when kaitie and I work out together we don’t talk until we’re done and headed back to the car), but I gotta say I actually really enjoy the Nike plus run club app and the guided runs. Getting back into a routine is super easy with the app since it tells you what kind of run to do and when and the coaches help you know what your effort should be throughout the run.

I absolutely loathe working out with other people. So glad I don't have to join a gym and have a good setup at home to get all my workouts in.

I’m so happy I don’t work from home. I would be a mess. I close my steps rings by 3 everyday.

So do I, but I'm on my feet working out, walking the dog, getting the kids ready, etc. from 5:30 or 6am to 9am every day, plus additional walks and things throughout the day.

Yeah, mentally I would be a lot better (well maybe not because I have young children, ha!) but the physical part would go in the gutter.

I never understood how people could workout during lunch offsite and work from an office. Feel like you either didn’t work out because by the time travel/ change / shower you had no time or exercise or you didn’t give a shit if you smelled and didn’t shower to save a few more minutes to exercise. Unless you had like a two hour lunch there’s just no way to get a quality workout in over 12-1 imo.

I had a coworker who went to the gym just down the street from our office and I honestly don’t think he did anything but change into workout gear, walk around for 10 minutes and then change and come back. And then he’d spend 1-2 making lunch and big surprise he was late on all his projects with that schedule in place lol

At my old office several of me and my coworkers went to the same gym and I'd sometimes see them there on their lunch too. But I have a flexible job where if I work late the night before I can take a longer lunch so I'd do stuff like that since i worked late a lot, or I'd listen to a virtual meeting where i don't have to talk or be on video while I was on the treadmill or something. I loved my old gym and miss it all the time. I have like a hybrid setup now. I have a very small apartment gym that's kinda like a hotel gym. Very minimal but has some cardio and weight machines and gets the job done. Then I have some dumbbells at home and when it's not too hot I'll jog outside. I do a lot of free YouTube workout videos which have been great.

My gym is 15 min from my office and I go 3 times a week at lunch to play 5 on 5 full court basketball with 15-20 other guys who all do the same thing on their lunch breaks. I am gone from 1130 am until 115-130ish. I’ve been doing this since 2011 (two separate jobs across that timeframe).

I think times have changed where a lot of bosses aren’t over employee shoulders watching when they go to lunch or when they come back. At least, neither of my bosses cared - and judging how many people I see at the gym during lunch hour - many others don’t care either. So long as you get your work done by the end of the day and it’s not hindering your performance.

Plus we live in an era where technology has made it impossible to ever really be off the clock or away from work. My boss(es) have understood that it’s not uncommon for me to be up till 11/spending time on the weekends answering emails, following up on things, etc. Plus, I keep myself available even while at the gym (I keep my watch on in case any urgent emails/calls come in).

Also this is my favorite workout video right now I don't even care! It's usually fairly easy for me and just fun so I tacked it on to the end of my weight training video yesterday just for some extra cardio and to hit a heart rate goal. I underestimated how spent I was from the weights and almost threw up lmao

I almost always work out before work. Since I work in a restaurant my work doesn't start until 12:30-1:00 depending on the day. So I go, get my 1-1 1/2 hour workout in and shower there. My gym is only ten minutes utes from my house and ten minutes from my job so its pretty convenient.

I wish I was an early exercise person so i could get it out of the way early in the day and feel like i have more down time after work. I do it a few times a year and it feels nice but I'm just not a morning person. I used to take a 5:30am kickboxing class and then I would shower and do my grocery shopping after and the store would be empty it was great. I just can't will myself to get up most days.
