I've never played DDR but I should sometime because I love dance workouts

It's probably more akin to running in place than actual dancing but it is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. Definitely give it a shot

You just step on the arrows, right? I mean I presume it's harder than just that in practice lol but that makes sense it's not "dancing." Still sounds fun tho! I'm not a v good dancer but I like things I can do to music

That's the gist of it, yeah. The harder you go up in difficulty the more the "running in place" comparison comes into play but regardless of whether you're playing on Beginner or Expert, it's still exercise and as long as you like the music (I happen to love a lot of it), it's a lot of fun.

Konami does have another game called DanceRush Stardom which is similar but based more around shuffling so it's a little closer to actual dancing, and it's also a pretty good workout.

If you're anywhere near a Round1, most of them will have both games. A lot of Dave and Buster's have DDR, but not all

Signed up for a powerlifting meet and didn't realize it wasn't drug tested. I'm about to get smoked by an 18 year old with an entire chemistry set in his bloodstream.

Does anyone here do martial arts or some sort of MMA for exercise? I used to jog all of the time but I continue to get runner's toe (toes rub against each other). I've tried wider shoes, running on flat ground, and running on padded tracks, but nothing seems to work.

Due to that I am thinking about taking some MMA (muay thai, sanda, etc.) to help maintain cardio without having to constantly run.

    Just do drugs.

I train, not sure I can help you with shoes, I'd go to a running store and get your feet measured and fitted properly. That said, if you've never trained before you're going to be gassed when you start anyway. Two different energy systems. Remember to relax and try to stay loose, that'll conserve energy. Have fun, I really fell in love with it and haven't looked back.

Are there any recommended couch to 10k type apps where I have the option to put it on treadmill mode? While skimming, a lot of them seem to rely on my GPS but with the cold weather I'm not always or even often exercising outside. The goal is to run outside more so ideally I can find a good app that will allow for both modes.

My NordicTrack bike finally was delivered today and I’m shocked at how quiet it is. I was super worried it would be loud on incline/decline and I’d have to put it elsewhere like I had to with the treadmill but I will be able to keep the bike in my apartment thankfully.

yup hernia confirmed. now i gotta wait a week just to get a referal to a surgeon just to go over treatment options. It's gonna be nearly 2023 before I get back in the gym at this point ugh. it was nice the first week or two being a lazy piece of shit and going home to play video games or lay on the couch after work but now I'm getting restless and bummed out that by the time summer rolls around I'm gonna be out of shape and back at square 1 with all my lifts and endurace

this sucks to hear, sorry about the diagnosis. It’s probably super tricky with a hernia since that could impact a lot of body movements but do you know or have you looked into any exercises you can do that would be minimal impact on a hernia? The only thing that comes to mind is biceps lol but maybe there’s other stuff out there you would be able to safely do at this time / during recovery?

Unfortunately anything over like 15 pounds or being up for more than 10 minutes at a time has been aggravating it. Tried helping bring in groceries a few weeks ago and that sucked and then tried doing some laundry to help out around the house and walking up and down the stairs with the laundry baskets hurt too. Tried walked the dogs and that was a no go as well. I wish I could do at least upper body or go to the gym to do walk on the treadmill just to get out of the house but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be any better for me unfortunately

I was so proud of myself for keeping a healthy mindset while losing weight, but I've definitely strayed off course. It was easy to stay positive and have a good attitude about it when I felt like I had nothing to lose. Now that I've lost weight and toned up a bit I'm terrified of backsliding the progress and have become too aware of my body. It's def dysmorphia. It's particularly hard this week because I'm PMSing so I'm craving a lot of unhealthy food and am very fatigued so I'm not motivated much. I need to focus on the positives and what I have done this week, which is some v good things for my body. But all I focus on is not being kind to myself, and I get convinced I can feel my body changing back like overnight. I need to dive back into some body neutrality stuff.

You got this! And remember sometimes a little "cheating" and giving into those cravings is okay, even good for you!

Yeah it's so weird because I preach eating what you want in moderation all the time and did so well at the beginning. I think it's the muscle tone I'm mostly afraid to lose cause I have calf muscles for like the first time ever! I haven't had time to do weight training stuff lately so I try to get in quick cardio when I can, but I'm convinced I'm gonna lose muscle tone right away. Thank u though I just need to give myself some more daily reminders.

I totally get it, and as humans we're programmed to focus on the negative more than the positive, so I know it's easier said than done to focus on the positive instead of the negative.

Something that has worked for me during those times, so I don't get (further) discouraged when I already feel like I haven't been doing what I should, is to not weigh myself and avoid checking out my body in the mirror, etc. until I'm feeling more confident.

I think the pressure to maintain is so real too. Like all my coworkers know I've been working hard and will acknowledge my progress and I get all in my head like I dont want them to see me backside even though they dgaf

Being a baker makes it impossible to not put on winter weight ugh. 10-15 pounds up from where I want to be, just worrying about getting strong while I'm bulky though

Dry January and my running streak (22 days and counting!) have been working for me. I'm down 7 pounds this month (15 pounds since the end of September) and, probably more importantly, my pace is 35 seconds per mile quicker than it was in November when I ran a half marathon.
