Totally forgot the new record was out already. Just added to my playlist for the day, and am excited to listen. I enjoyed the pre-release tracks a lot.

 

Beaufort is probably my favorite at this point. It grooves so hard. I also really like how Call Ins and Eastern Locus are linked together lyrically.

 

Vampyre and Alley Cat are still my favorites, everything is great except Call Ins and parts of Silent Gold right now.

 

My main qualm with Call Ins is that it feels more like an intro to Eastern Locust rather than a complete song.

 

I'm starting to feel that it would have been better to make them one long song. Would have been sick as like a 6 or 7 minute mofo.

 

Agreed. I pretty much think of them as one song at this point. I never listen to one without the other. Kinda feels like Stranger Danger to me.

 

Yeah, I put the album on shuffle coming home from a Pierce the Veil show last night, everything sounds so good but Call Ins without Eastern Locust isn't much to talk about for me.

 

I love the 1-2 punch of Air Raid and Sand. I overplayed them in the months prior to the album's release, but I still think they start the album off with a bang. I especially love the abrupt ending of Air Raid immediately followed by the drum intro to Sand. It flows so well.

 

Did not think you were a huge SOTP fan. Nice.

 

I am from a song standpoint. Admittedly, the vocals are not the strongest sounding, drums don't punch as much as they should, and the production overall is just not really great. But the songs rule too much for me to not put it there. Maybe it'll change once I spin this IHY vinyl (not trying to rub this in your face, sorry)

 

Hahah for sure! I just made my friend a playlist on Apple Music of the last three HIL records (including "Few") and he was blown away. He stopped listening after Hollywood and couldn't believe it was the same band.

 

IAH is so much of a hindrance to fans of this band I feel like, stops so many people from getting into the improved sound.

 

The Garden has finally clicked for me. I love where it takes the China White story. I also love Josh Moore's cameo as well as Dustie Waring's Dimebag-esque guitar solo at the end.

Oh definitely. When Poison first came out, a good chunk of their fans (me included) hated it. I came around and realized how wrong I was but a lot of fans never did. Then It Hates You and Heavy Fruit were never given the proper push so there's probably a lot of fans that forgot about the band and/or never spun any of the newer records.

 

Yeah I don't think I liked it when IHY came out, but I don't think I loved IAH either aside from the bookends.

 

I loved IAH when it first came out but I listened to it the other day and man... it ain't that good IMO. Plus the production is bad.

 

Yeah I mean it's not bad, and the bass parts are cool. But it sounds really dated and strange once you get into everything after.

 

I always felt like the best IAH songs were 2-9. It bummed me out that people only really cared about Seduction and the title track, because songs like Eating a Book, Creature Walks, China White, and Dinner with a Gypsy are so good. I will agree that parts of the record sound sound dated and the production is the worst they've had, which is surprising since it was produced by Adam D. I almost wish they would re-record it or release a live record of it or something because those songs sound really good when filtered through the band's current sound.

 

It's kinda how I feel about Gutter Phenomenon where it has big hits but also bad production and sounds annoying to listen to, and doesn't reflect a current sound too well.

Ok so I am a member on the "ETIDiots" Facebook group and everyone keeps mentioning the shit production and while I don't think it sounds fantastic- I don't hear how it's bad. I want to though cause now I feel left out lol.
