Yeah they can be lied to because recruiters DO have quotas.

But at the same time, knowing what branches see on the ground action helps too. In terms of deploying in a war zone it's like marines, army, navy and last is the air force. There's a reason it's jokingly referred to as the chair force. I do wonder where the space force will land on the list.

Just to reiterate, I never asked why they have those jobs, but what the job is. Then from there we could disagree, but the why is not of concern.

 

I just don't think it is fair to say to a naive 18 year old who doesn't know jack shit about anything going on in the world who joined the military to escape their dying post-industrial town "you should have known as much about imperialism and the military industrial complex as me a 35 year old liberal arts grad before you joined up after high school. Therefore if you die as an accessory to the horrible crimes you got roped into by our government you got what is coming to you"

Officers and NCOs? Different story completely. My point is just about first enlistment kids out of high school.

sure, I agree it's 100% predatory, and those are exactly the kinds of kids they seek out, but also what we're doing in Palestine, what we have done in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, and Vietnam aren't exactly secret or only known to those with liberal arts degrees? Not sure if that's an excuse for someone to join up with all of that information well publicized and taught in schools.

 

Space Force don't deploy. They basically just control military satellites and antennae arrays out of fortified complexes in Colorado. They can take out the satellite communication and navigation systems of nation states and remotely cause of a lot of chaos and harm without dropping actual weapons though

When I was 18 I sure as shit knew our military was fucked and i would never sign up. Then again I was in the ninth grade when 09/11 happened and got to witness the US continue it's islamophobic military actions at will.

But that's the privilege of being a brown skinned Muslim kid.

Before it comes up yes I'm fully aware of ROTC and the military targeting young POC and like 30% of the armed forces is black and brown kids.
