This is in Fullerton where I went to college and it made me think of the first day of Journalism school. The professor walked in and started her introduction and then looked at her phone and answered it, "There's a plane down near the Fullerton airfield? Do we have a tail number?" then to the class "Write this number down and see what you can find" We were all like wtf is going on. Turned out she was just bullshitting and did this little act for all her intro classes to drive home the importance of some shit, I don't remember.

I mean, this is pretty standard in most states to process records requests. Otherwise people could request voluminous amounts of records and jam up government employees from doing their jobs and instead are working on bogus requests all day.

Every request my office gets we gather an estimated amount of time to process the request from the employee(s) responsible. If it’s more than 1 hour of work I charge $30/hr (CO actually allows me to charge more but I haven’t raised my fee since taking this job in 2020) and statute allows us to request a 50% deposit of the estimate before I even have employees start working on the request.

once we have everything gathered, reviewed, redacted if necessary, and ready to provide we’ll get the actual time spent and collect the remaining deposit, if any.
