I mean yeah that's why I think even when the worst cases are highlighted by the (radical) left its less about the principal than the circumstances. I think it's really a catholic thing to have complete abolition of the death penalty be a central demand of your politics. it doesn't really make sense to position it like that if you're also asserting the state and ruling class are murdering people daily to perpetuate themselves

OJ supporters in 1995: Yeah he probably did it, and he might not even be a good person, but him getting off would be such a huge symbolic defeat and an embarrassment to the oppressive establishment that it doesn't matter to us. This goes far beyond just the accused or his victims. Free OJ.

Not comparing Luigi and OJ or even the crimes. Just saying I don't care if he did it or not. I don't care even care if he did it for the right reasons. I don't really care if Luigi is a sympathetic person or not. The worst people and institutions in America want him to be guilty so I want him to get off to send a message simple as that. Same justification many people say Johnny Cochran personally had during the OJ trial.

Ok fair. But again not comparing the perps or the acts, or the victims, but the just the systemic anger at institutions as justification of support of many in the public. The OJ case took place within the shadow of Rodney King, the LA riots, and LAPD corruption, That case became symbolic of all those things to many people.

 

Yeah I think the red line is when Trump voters start seeing their federal benefits being cut. You can't really distract them with culture war shit as much once their Medicare and social security and VA benefits start getting slashed.
