Chapo had Alexander Aviña on today to talk about how Mexico has had a very popular left wing government (even though there’s very valid left criticism of it) for the past several years, and how they elected a woman president on a left wing platform in a somewhat socially conservative country. Hearing how AMLO made an endrun around the horrible media elites was especially fascinating.

 

R's also flipped what should have been a pretty easy seat for Dems to keep in Colorado, but the incumbent sucked ass and is one of the Dems who voted for that non-profit bill that's making its way through Congress right now

 

I feel bad being a downer (even if I’m frequently a downer) but i think this benefits Elon because it shoots down his competitors trying to gain a foothold in the EV market while Tesla already has that. It’ll probably have some negative effect on Tesla in the short term, but it could possibly obliterate his competition. It’s more like trying to starve out the competition, is how I’ve seen it characterized.

One maybe positive note about the EV tax credit is that Trump can't just get rid of it, congress would have to vote to repeal it, which sounds like the plan is to include it in a tax reform legislation bill. With the slim house margin, will be interesting seeing how competent they can be to get their whole party on board with any major legislation

side note on the tax credit I still think it's incredibly stupid that it only applies to EVs and plug-in hybrids and not include all hybrids as well. Right now hybrids are a much better option for people in most areas. That's what I want my next car to be. The charging infrastructure and technology just isn't there yet for me to see an EV being worth the investment.

 

I’d buy an EV if I had the cash. I can just charge it at Target lol
