The next person to lead the left should constantly be yelling “this shit sucks!”

Stuff like “what the fuck is this shit?!”

or like “No way they’re making us do this shit.”

As opposed to “nothing will change and I’m friends with the worst people who ever lived.”

I don’t think I need to tell people “look credit where it’s due, the GDP is looking great right now, but...” The Dems pay hacks to do that. I think we live in a broken and grotesque system and I’m only really ever going to talk about it as such.

inflation hits people very hard and makes it difficult for them to pay for the normal day-to-day things that they need for their life, and this grinds you down over time, and hearing someone rich telling you that 'aaaactually, the economy is very strong and you are just a shitty person' is a surefire way to alienate and infuriate you.

at the same time, having someone say that they understand that you are struggling and they will do things to change that and help you is going to sound very enticing, even if it is coming from a lying billionaire with autocratic tendencies.

continuing to repeat this same argument after the election results we just saw across the country is kind of insane tbh

Pointing out that wages on average kept up with inflation , that this was especially true with the lowest quintile, and that because of that income inequality actually went down, =/= just saying “actually the economy is fine you’re just a shitty person”. Cmon, man.

and again I feel like people are just ignoring the part where I’m saying they needed to message what they were going to do for people to improve their lives economically lol.

Between me and my fiancé we both make well over the median average family income for our State and Country as a whole. I continually struggle to understand how those who make less than us are doing it and then doing it with children.

We don't own a home, have two cars but only one that has loan for it (which my auto payment is well under the average used car loan payment), we don't have any medical bills/debt (knock on wood). What we do have is student loan payments that seemingly will never go away, I financed on a 0% interest credit card our last vacation and my fiancé's engagement ring. So there is that but we rarely eat out and neither of us are big drinkers though we do partake in the devils lettuce.

I am struggling with how to save enough money to be able to pay for our wedding/honeymoon and how the fuck on top of that to save any sort of money to be able have a down payment for a house. That is all on the hope that nothing serious happens to us in the meantime.

I try to not get too overwhelmed by it because I know we have it good compared to other people but yeah I don't know how the fuck people who make less than us are doing it and especially those that have children which I would like to have at some point and not when I am fucking 45 years old.

Also I continually wonder as I drive around where I live on how the fuck there is enough jobs that pay the amount of money needed to afford the houses that are seemingly continually are being built around me.

I think I should point out that, in fairness to you, I don't actually think that you right now are saying this or that you believe this - I do think however that this was the message that the Dems were saying and got across to voters and this clearly showed in the results of the election

I think when you say that 'Dems needed to message what they were going to do better' it's a lot like when people whitewash crazy shit that trump said and try to make it fit into normal, rational things that someone else might have said when he actually meant exactly what he said

I think you're giving Dems a whole hell of a lot of credit and faith that they don't deserve

I mean i know the core MAGA base is going to love Trump no matter what happens, but i know that base didn't make up a majority of who voted for him. I am really curious when the reality of what he's going to do comes home to roost and starts to effect people how many of those "well I just think he's better on the economy" voters will turn on him.

When the tariffs make the cost of living skyrocket, when the government programs being cut lead to people losing their jobs, when they come after the social safety net, when people start hearing that their neighbor, or coworker's relative, or parent of their kid's friend, ect were taken at gunpoint in the middle of the night, when people start getting mass poisoned due to FDA deregulations, when measles comes back, when we get drawn into a war with Iran despite Trump running on being anti-war?

Just thinking about how the NBA should be fully owned by the players and stadium workers. How anything an “owner” does could be done by an employee that they could fire if they underperform. How most owners only buy teams as an ego boost and an investment they can later sell. How the whole country would be so much better without this entire class of rich people sucking every industry dry for their own profit at the expense of the rest of us who actually perform the labor to make anything worthwhile.

it’s starting to make sense why they’re pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into maintaining an awful status quo.

its mroe im too lazy to type out exactly what i think they should have been saying over and over again lol. They need(ed) to promote policies that would address the economic concerns of people, and while they were bringing those up (zoning reform, child tax credits, price gouging, etc), they never felt like a priority to the campaign, and their message never seemed to hone in on that stuff. And it’s something the Dems have always been horrible at. Repubs are great at hammering a message over and over and over and over and the Dems suck terribly at it.

Even you repeating it sounds smug, to be honest. People don't care whether wages kept up with inflation when child care costs 25k a year.

I have been told that wages have kept up with inflation by so many people; this has not happened with my wages. Any raise I've gotten (and I'm in a teacher's union with a contract!) has pretty much been cancelled out by my rent going up exorbitantly every year

I feel like I'm living in a different reality, but I know my experience is not unique.
