Kamala is literally campaigning, now, running ads on how Trump didn’t actually build the wall and is weak on immigration. Cmon dude

It’s true, she isn’t calling immigrants rapist. She’s just calling them fentanyl pushers

I posted on pro-Israel forums "Thou shall not kill" is a commandment and was immediately banned. Is that supposed to be controversial? It's like the first tenet of Judaism. Well, sixth but who's counting.

Yeah and Republicans are running ads calling Kamala both an Israel and a Palestine supporter lol. Pointing out your opponent can't do what he says he's going to do is different from the policies you're proposing. You said they were running on 2016 Republican immigration policy which is clearly not true considering the things I listed there, no?

You could try to make the case that Trump tried to waffle on mass deportation in 2016 to not sound so cruel, but he's was clearly lying those few times he tried to walk it back lol

While that's downright evil and dishonest, Kamala being extremely ambivalent on the issue and Biden ineffective has not helped her. Let's be real, on the issues, she's run a poor campaign. Still better than Hillary's and hopefully it's still enough.

David is right, the two parties are different.

but one party clearly hates other and the other party wants to play footys with the other.

@David87 would it make you feel better if people just stated that Trump has succeeded in getting the 2024 Democrats to sound more like him than they did in 2016 and 2020. As Tim Walz himself insisted, “there’s a lot of commonality!”

Ehh...sort of true. Maybe I'd pick nits and say it's more the media that has succeeded at that than Trump with how much they fear mongered about inflation and then immigration. But yes there was an overwhelming amount of people coming to the border after covid and the media decided to run with the Trump talking points on it instead of focusing on actual solutions to it, so here we are and immigration is constantly polling as a top 2-3 issue.

But even in the face of that, Dems are still talking about increasing legal immigration and funding the asylum system! And certainly not talking about doing mass deportations of every person here undocumented including DACA people and etc. They've gotten closer to Repubs on border security specifically, and even there they've talked about different ways to do it and still at least pay lip service to addressing the causes of the problem, which the GOP won't even mention.

Today is jobs of congress day so we'll be talking about the budget, always a good time to bring this link to the thread and let you all play around with it:
Debt Fixer | Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget

I was able to keep it at roughly 100% of GDP in both 2034 and 2050, mainly through tax increases, so I didn't hit their marks but whatever. I did forgo the wealth tax in favor of doing a bunch of business tax increases though, had I did the wealth tax too I would have crushed the goals. I was trying to not go too crazy though to see if it would work lol

The media may have fearmongered it, but instead of the Dems pushing back against them, they conceded the issue and moved right once again

my town does early voting, so I swung in last night on my commute home. the kid who lived across the hall from me freshman year of college is running for reelection unopposed as a republican state rep

I already knew he was a state rep but this fact continues to blow my fucking mind and did so again last night when I saw his name on the ballot

I mean Dems spent a solid year or so trying to address it their way and put their spin on the issue, including having Harris be an envoy to the countries where immigration was most heavily coming from, and it wasn't really covered. It went on for like a whole other year before Dems decided to try and push the border bill as the media fervor over it hit it's apex.

nope, just that he was a total fucking clown haha

he would always invite me across the hall to play Madden on Xbox (I think?) because I was terrible at sports games and he'd say he'd take it easy on me and pick a bad team and then we'd start playing and he would absolutely dominate and run up the score and yell out into the hall for everyone else to come see how badly he was annihilating me

    good times

Okay, but you see how Dems went from “Trump’s border wall is a monument to racism” to “haha, dork didn’t even build his border wall right, let us do it” in the span of an election and understand why that causes people to question their commitment to programs like DACA, right? Or how 4 years ago there was a serious conversation about the funding levels for ICE and their role as a force of brutality and now it’s basically an arms race to see who can best aid them in a battle against mythological criminal fent-pushers that has and will result in innocent people being beaten and worse.

Bit of a side note here, but I know you’ve said before something along the lines of “the actual issue with Trump’s policies is the cruelty of them” when people bring up the Kids in Cages stuff. I think you should preference all our criticisms of Trump with that in the future: if he wins, the next time someone calls him out for his border wall or for throwing kids in cages then you should caution them that you believe some amount of border wall and some amount of kids in cages is necessary and acceptable. I don’t remember you ever saying those things when the criticisms were levied at him in his first term, but it seems that that’s how you feel so it’s just the impartial thing to do.

The lack of effective counter-messaging has been brought up to him before. But another sun rises, and he’s clocking back in to another shift at the Unnecessary Cover for a Bunch of People Who Hate Us All factory.
