You don't need to have military experience to be SecDef. McNamara had the same amount of time in the military at Major Pete and was CEO of Ford before he got the job. Both Cheney and Rumsfeld were just party lackies with little to no military experience like Pete before they got they become SoD too .

I just don't see any situation they select Pete for that role; just does not fit the mold of someone they'd want to lead the entire defense department. I think they'd select someone older, who's a bit more gruff.

 

I full believe the Dem party bosses want to give him a promotion with prestige that he can build himself as a future presidental candidate with. I think he is a longterm party project. Duties of Transportation Sec translate pretty well to SecDef. He doesn't have the legal experience for AG. Doesn't have the diplomatic experience for Sec State. SecDef has many times in the past been done by loyalist party stooges with little military experience.

He was on the shortlist for Kamala's VP. Not a stretch to make that calculation that they'd give him one of the big boy cabinet jobs as a prize.

 

He was talking about rewarding Pete for being a good surrogate/soldier for the campaign and what to do with him in terms of a "promotion"

I understand why folks want the Harris to lose in Michigan but I have serious concerns if that happens would that also lose the State House and the trifecta that Dems finally have here. The trifecta has allowed alot of progressive things to finally start happening here after so many years of Republican rule.
