I've never been a waiter so I don't really know what to think on question 5 in MA.

Question 5: Minimum Wage for Tipped Workers

Inherently raising minimum wages always sounds good to me but a lot of waiters at locus restaurants have been pretty outwardly opposed.

 

I would think opposition stems from paying taxes but aren't tips taxed already?

 

After doing some reading and talking with people about it, the primary concern is that increasing the wages would mean increased menu prices to cover the costs which could negatively affect business in general as well as what people are willing to tip.

In situations like this, I try to talk to a few people I know who it would directly impact and gauge their feelings on it. And nobody I know wants it. Which seems counter-intuitive on its face but when you dig into the details and possible impact, I can see why it could be a net negative if passed for some people.

 

It’s alright. They’re taking the Cheney endorsement but not the foreign policy. Nothing to worry bout.
