And losing young voters and Muslim voters has no bearing on Joe Biden’s reelection? If anything, I’d say those are among the two most crucial groups. And it just so happens they are not basing their vote on inflation. In which case, he will have lost directly because of Gaza.

I don’t agree that the Dems are the vehicle through which you’ll get left wing policy. But whatever, we’ve had that back and forth plenty of times.

I don’t think voting for Dems is the only, the sole, or even a meaningful part of having a political life. Being involved in the union, showing up at protests, community work. These things are all political work i engage in, and part of what I’d call the political process.

As long as issue polling continues to show that most people either agree with Israel or think America is mostly doing the right thing, Israel will not be seen as the issue that cost Biden the election. Especially with all the doom and focus on inflation as we’ve had for like 2.5 years straight now.

But none of it matters without large scale, national action on pretty much all major issues. And you’re conceding that you don’t think that’s possible. I think you’re wrong, as I’ve said, but if we accept your view, it’s all for naught

No, I agree polls show young people are most upset about Israel/Palestine. But that being the only group, vs economic issues spreading across the entire electorate, points to one being focused on more than the other. Especially when the same polls show you’ll lose just as much support/maybe more if you reversed course on Israel

 

If it costs him the youth vote is where this started. If he loses that. He loses. He’s gonna lose it. And it’s obvious why.

 

With every part of Biden’s student loan plan being stopped by conservative judges and the Supreme Court making it clear they won’t let him do anything meaningful to regulate GHG emissions, if young people are upset about Palestine I don’t see how Biden wins them back at all. He won’t fight the courts so his promises and policies are empty. He’s done nothing for young people and repulsed them morally with his support of Israel’s onslaught. On the other hand, if David is right, Biden can reverse course and say no more support for Israel and the normies will still have the inflation and economy reasons to vote for Biden

I have no faith that the Democrats want - or would ever even allow, if it’s left to them - the world i want to exist. They will fight against it as hard as republicans will, in the end. I don’t feel this way because of the internet, or some weird left-wing echo chamber. It’s just how I’ve come to see it after, like, a couple decades of thinking of this stuff and real-life experiences. Organizing work helps me feel like things will get better.

I keep trying to tell my super MSNBC mom this. NOBODY under 30 is going to go out of their way to vote for Biden (again). They did it in 2020 and he won, and has done nothing to excite any young person to go do it again and has pissed off nearly all of them (us).

Meanwhile Trump has the republican vote and they’ll all go and vote, and have even more motivation to get Biden out.

If Biden can’t get the super young vote he’s doomed and I think this is what happens
