The thing about "work hours" is that they were implemented back when most households had only one income, and so they completely fail to account for "school hours."

So, any household with two working parents are essentially fucked.

And don't get me started on "summer break" for schools. Something that was completely made up when middle class parents started escaping to the country during the summer to escape cities that started to become increasingly warm due to rapid urbanization. Before that, school was essentially year round.

see, I've never worked a job in sales or a job with a commission. I have no first hand knowledge of how they work - I've been a nurse for 15 years now, and before that I worked for FedEx, so I've always been on set shifts. it sounds like he is suggesting that you don't work long enough hours like he does though, hinting that maybe you need to have insane hours like him

It’s the type of job with no end, or set structure - it’s a constant grind, as in the base pay is so low, that you have to keep hunting for new leads and deals in order to make your livelihood. “You get out of it what you put into it” as he has said on multiple occasions to new people who started after me. He absolutely is suggesting that if I want to have a better chance of a decent salary, I should start working later, not realizing that means the job itself is structured incorrectly if you can’t make a livable wage working normal hours

  6. My contract is 8-4, I’m usually there 8:15-3:50. So I guess I work about 38.5 hours a week.

I had a temp job last year, April-June. My mom passed away in the exact middle. By the time I came back to work, I had a month left and for obvious reasons, didn’t really care. Didn’t help that the trainer who was supposed to help basically ignored me. So, I did the absolute bare minimum which was maybe an hour of actual work each day. I spent the rest of the time playing Tears of the Kingdom all day. I legit did that for a month straight, five days a week. I kept my computer active the whole time. Nobody ever noticed or said a word. They said I was doing great and were bummed I wasn’t going to stay on as a permanent employee.

32 hour work week seems like an easy no brainer but even liberal politicians won’t back it because the status quo is everything to them and change is too scary

They don't back the status quo because change is scary, the status quo became the way it is by corporations changing rules and cultural practices to benefit the rich as much as they possibly could without society collapsing. We'd be working 60 hours a week if 40 wasn't fought for.

The people paying our politicians want less worker protections, they won't let 32 weeks pass without another long fight, and there's no leadership in this country organizing the kind of manpower needed to even start that fight.

It's sick for Bernie to bring it up but it's dead in the water.

Summer breaks exist because half the teachers in the country right now would not do the job if it were year round because it’s exhausting.

also school buildings are a lot harder to cool in hot summer months and would have insane electric bills
