I worked a phone job for years and recently when Apple introduced the real time voice to screen AI voicemail on all new IPhones it made the job so much worse.

One of the few luxuries of phone work was most of your day was leaving voicemails that you knew 80% of people were never going to listen to. Then suddenly you had the stress about people picking up in the middle of me leaving a message ( which phone workers fucking hate. Never do that) all day.

I honestly couldn't even imagine picking up a phone call for someone I know, let alone a random number.

 

I've been with my girlfriend for over 4 years now and I think the number of times we called the other's phone to talk is probably less than six (not counting FaceTime).

My work was dealing with people that presumably should have already had our number saved and knew we might call anyway.

My biggest pet peeve was always the people who never bothered saving our number and picked up not knowing who was calling, and as soon as they knew it was us, they'd be like "sorry I can't talk right now". It's like you're answering the phone just to tell me you can't talk on the phone? You're wasting my time and yours, just let me leave a voicemail.
