Well the good news is Harris supported mandatory gun buyback programs then walked that back, maybe she’ll walk back the DNC’s commitment in their platform to Israel.

Just looking at the numbers I can find, roughly 30,000 civilians killed or wounded in Ukraine as of February 2024, and roughly 40,000 civilians killed in Gaza as of August

The only chance of Dems making any progress on these issues is getting the trifecta and keeping it for more than one cycle, and even then that'll be hard.

I thought Ukraine was around 12K civilians dead. The 30,000 number is one I’ve seen associated with military losses. I could be wrong, though.

The Ukraine number includes killed and wounded (which I mentioned), while the Gaza figure I believe is all killed; found an updated figure from the OHCHR (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights), now at about 35k: Ukraine civilian war casualties 2024 | Statista

I actually didn't know until a few years ago she comes from a political dynasty. Her father and brother both served as mayor of Baltimore. Her father was also a US congressman before he became mayor.

If anyone remembers that episode of The Wire where Tommy Carcetti consults with that old Italian former Baltimore mayor during the 1960's? That was based on Pelosi's brother.

That's why I think the key is for them to have it for more than 2 years; at least a full 4 years, if not longer, for action on these issues to actually/finally take place.

I didn’t say you had to care, just that multiple people don’t seem to get the point from you that you thought you made on it.

people are not comparing the circumstances of the war, they’re comparing how some folks seemingly, at the very least, shrug off one war, if not quietly support the reasons for it based off of what they’ve said outloud, with how they’re reacting to a different war. I can’t speak for everyone but I do think there’s a general “all war is horrible and bad and the things happening in these wars are horrible” vs. “this one is bad and wrong because we’re financially support it and that one is kinda bad but also understandable because America is bad and wrong”, which doesn’t really compute for a lot of people. Those people also don’t come to this thread and post “see this thing that Hamas did that’s terrible” as like a weird both-sidesism, probably because everyone here understands that the actions palestinianas and Gaza take right now and things they say about Isrealis or Jews right now would be completely understandable, even if we thought it was wrong to say or do. But Ukrainians saying and doing fucked up shit to Russians is regularly posted in the other thread as a sort of ‘see these guys actually aren’t so good!’

My point is that they will find an excuse no matter how long they have a trifecta

All the Dems need is for us to vote them into power for a solid thirty years. After that, they will begin to do one thing.
