I feel like I am an outlier as far as my dad's politics goes. My dad is a lifelong "hates both parties independent" guy. Voted for Perot twice. Voted for Jill Stein in 2016. Supported Bernie in 2020. Took me to a Dennis Kucinich rally in 2007.

Inconsistent with policy but just supports whichever candidate pisses off both parties establishments the most. He even had a short Tulsi Gabbard phase in 2020 before she switched parties.

 

Been largely lucky with my family. My parents are fairly liberal and my mom will text me how much she hates trump all the time lol. Rest of my remaining extended family are liberal too with the exception of one cousin who is a lutheran pastor and we all kind of pretend doesnt exist most of the time. My grandparents on my father's side got into Fox News years ago, would have it on all the time while I would visit long ago, but never got too fucked up over it somehow. They did have slightly warped views of places (like SF and they would ask me about it since they lived there years ago and I do now and would correct them and they'd accept it readily enough) but somehow haven't become twisted like others in here reported. Feel lucky about that. My grandmother, only one left, doesn't ever mention politics when I call regularly thankfully.

 

My dad was a republican and my mother was a fairly conservative democrat. They have since strayed further to the left. My grandfather is pretty brain wormed trump supporter, but is at the age now where he really doesn't care at all and just supports whatever has a flag and money for vets. My uncle and aunt though...mega MAGA and it's kinda blown up my larger family.

Surprisingly though my dad didn't vote Nader in 2000. He voted Bush just to spite the Clintons because he hated them so much. He ended up regretting that one.

My Dad is as blue blood liberal as you can get. Grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota, and eventually became a high school teacher, for 40 years. Seeing things for how they really are, and explaining things to others, was his main skill. Now works as an auto parts driver for O’Reillys, and constantly asks all the MAGA-pilled people he works with why they vote against their own economic interests, since they’re all poor as shit, and they never have a good answer, haha. Big fan of Jimmy Carter. Was a huge Paul Wellstone supporter when he was alive, and put out a PW sign on the lawn when he died (which was promptly stolen unfortunately). My Mom is very liberal as well, so my morals and way of thinking def comes from them

Oh, additionally about my grandparents is they voted for Gary Johnson in 2016. Mostly because at the time they disliked Trump (not sure what my grandma voted in 2020) and because they genuinely knew the man lol.

 

Grandpa is a silent generation lifelong Republican who thinks Trump is too rude and impolite

One pair of aunt/uncle are suburban NPR Democrats

Other pair of aunt/uncle are MAGA.

One cousin is a liberal attorney

Another cousin who is a 32 year old libertarian pepe that still lives with his parents

I love advertising, I love paywalls. I love having no access to news without using an Internet Archive, I love seeing a constant, unending, infinite stream of AI slop and right-wing freaks and targeted ads about something you talked about four minutes ago. I even love Google Search. I love each gallon of water wasted every time someone asks ChatGPT the best way to heat up rice. I love the continued radicalization of lonely men as they search for meaning in a world that justifies -- no, celebrates -- violence, genocide, xenophobia, racism.

The Internet - we love it, don't we folks. It keeps getting better and better!

There is a group who bought ValVenis.com and trademarked Val Venis since he let it expire. They're raising money for the LGTBQ+ community to bother him lol.

 

A combo of college, AP.net, and Chorus helped radicalize me. Brought the liberal agenda back home to my parents and they caught on, thankfully.
