I get the impulse to see some of these individuals as somehow better than the others, but I truly don’t believe you’d let a guy who campaigned for governor saying he would sign more death warrants for prisoners than any governor in his state’s history, has been fervently anti-abortion rights for 30+ years, and was an avowed climate change denier to eat dinner with you. He used his family (as responsible for atrocities as any other family in American history) and his position to make the country/world a worse place. I say all this to say, we don’t have to say nice things about any of these people lol

I’d argue you don’t get to Trump without the Bush family, including Jeb.

Don't disagree. Plenty of people with shitty political opinions I have to deal with and accept. There's a difference between people with poor politics and people who are genuinely personally shitty. I know we'd disagree, but I grew up with a Dad who was very conservative, in a relatively conservative town and have a roommate that's conservative. Get along well with all of them and I don't delve into politics with them.

I guess I believe in a lesser evil but you are correct that the Bush "Compassionate Conservatism" which really wasn't that really just drove of us to looney ville.

 

I feel that. My dad is super conservative too these days (wild voting history - voted against Reagan twice, then voted against Bush, voted for Perot twice, voted for Bush 2 twice, and then Obama twice, and then Trump twice lol). I tend to think of it mostly as trying to punch up - I try to reserve the harshest criticism and spare the least sympathy for people in power. When Jeb had power, he was a ghoul. The average conservative voter is someone I can tolerate until they’re fully on their bullshit lol a thing i think i had to develop growing up in John Boehner’s congressional district.
