  2. I've never heard of this (not that I know much about diabetes).

Why would doctors prescribe diabetes meds for weight loss over something else?

Since I am glutton for punishment, I decided to take a look at this lady's page. Also has a video of Barbara Bush on there, doing a similar thing of insinuating she is a man. Even has a distorted voice that is made to be more "manly". That lady is fucking gross and insane their account is allowed to post that shit and stay up.

Basically a couple of newer diabetes drugs that came online in the last 4-5 years have shown to have a powerful weight loss effect with roughly zero side effects. Pretty much the holy grail of weight loss research. But that news hit and now people are snatching it all up and obviously supply hasn't been able to ramp up to meet the crazy new demand for it.

As for why it's being allowed, I presume it's a reason that starts with M, ends in Y, and has a lot of ones in it.

I love how our society just points to a pill for weight loss and says "just take this and it'll all be okay!" and we just ignore all the awful ingredients in our food that's banned in other countries, while also not having affordable alternatives. Sure, you can get really healthy food here in America, it's just going to be cost-prohibitive to the communities that are affected the most by obesity and related diseases. On the other side of that equation, a large percentage of Americans are content to consume all the bad stuff and then just take the pill. That's not right either.

Either way, this is seriously fucked for people whose lives are dependent on these meds. Why the hell are actual diabetics having to fight for the medicine that was made for them in the first place?! :swear:

Maybe it’s rare, but I’ve heard of some serious shit happening to people who take Ozempic. They lost weight, sure. But then they went into kidney failure and died.

A quick Google search indicates that it is, indeed, extremely rare.

Yeah if people on it are dying from kidney failure, I would probably assume it's the diabetes doing that before the drug, no?

Ugh, there it is. So close. Unfortunately, now the runoff is between two milquetoast neoliberals. Johnston is definitely the lesser of two evils at the moment, but we'll see how the campaign plays out.

Low voter turnout was defiitely a huge factor too, but I really Denver progressives would have been more organized for this election. Leslie Herod was the next best-performing progressive and she got 18,339 votes. Her and Lisa had very similar platforms. If one would have dropped out and endorsed the other, that could have been the difference. I know the polling data wasn't pointing to a clear leader, but some of the other low performing progressives should have dropped out early on.

We will have two more progressive members on the city council now, but it would have been great to pair them with a progressive mayor to actually get real change in the city.
